Research Technician - Chicago, United States - University of Chicago
Description
DepartmentBSD PAT - Oakes Lab
About the Department
Scott Oakes's laboratory studies how mammalian cells commit programmed cell death in response to various forms of damage and what goes wrong with this process in cancer and other diseases.
In particular, they focus on a type of stress that occurs when the cell's protein folding factory-an organelle called the endoplasmic reticulum-is overwhelmed and protein quality control fails.
The Oakes Laboratory is actively engaged in developing drugs to control cell fate under these conditions, which have potential to benefit patients with diseases from cancer to neurodegeneration.
This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract.
Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.Job Summary
The laboratory of Scott Oakes in the Department of Pathology at University of Chicago is searching for a Research Technician to join our team.
We are looking for someone to contribute both scientifically and administratively to help drive our forward our project on genetic targets in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors-a rare form of pancreatic cancer.
This individual will spend a substantial amount of time conducting experiments under the supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator, as well as work collaboratively with students, postdocs and other junior members in basic laboratory techniques.
This individual will be responsible for some of the ordering and maintenance of equipment, lab stocks, protocols, compliance policies, inventory, and scheduling of lab meetings.
Ideal of a recent college graduate, this is a particularly exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a team where they are valued for both their scientific and administrative contributions.
