    JOB TITLE: CTE Computer Science Teacher

    WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

    FUNDING SOURCE: Local

    REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

    PAY GRADE: Professional (187 Days) +13 additional days pending school/assignment

    DEPARTMENT: Career and Technical Education

    DATE REVISED: May 2024

    A Chapter 21 Contract will be issued for this position.

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    To provide students in the Computer Science program of study with learning experiences that explore the

    occupations and educational opportunities associated with designing, programming, and implementing

    computer and information networks. This program of study may also include exploration into analyzing

    science, engineering, and other data processing problems to implement and improve computer systems.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years recent (within the last 8 years) full time industry working experience
  • Preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned and/or ability to acquire certifications in the subject area required for the program.
  • (1) Computer Science: Grades 8-12.

    (2) Grades 6-12 or Grades 9-12__Computer Information Systems.

    (3) High School__Computer Information Systems.

    (4) Secondary Computer Information Systems (Grades 6-12)

    (5) Technology Applications: Early Childhood-Grade 12.

    (6) Technology Applications: Grades 8-12.

    Minimum Experience :

  • 2 years previous teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated competency in the subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Mastery in industry specific software - all Microsoft Office, Python, Java
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning
  • Strong understanding of career opportunities and skills required for employment in the computer science career field
  • Self-motivated with excellent work ethic
  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    The following list of responsibilities is not inclusive of all aspects of required job duties.

    Instructional Strategies :

  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Provide students with instruction utilizing experiential learning techniques
  • Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e. gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.).
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers/staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) while working with students in the classroom.
  • Use appropriate technologies to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Participate as an active member of the CTE Advisory Board for Computer Science.
  • Participate as a sponsor of a CTE student organization and competitions (Technical Student Association).
  • Student Growth and Development :

  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Consistently monitor student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Promote and work with the campus to provide middle schools with information regarding opportunities available through CTE.
  • Provide students with opportunities to earn industry certifications in Python and Java.
  • Classroom Management and Organization :

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Provide safety training for students and maintain documentation that the student mastered the concepts
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and other areas as appropriate in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, board policies, administrative regulations, and/or IEP.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Communication :

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents/guardians.
  • Actively Participate as a member of the cluster advisory committee
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use appropriate and acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Professional Growth and Development :

  • Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in assigned area, instructional strategies and the teaching and learning process.
  • Participate in district and campus professional development, including CTE meetings and training.
  • Participate in required district meetings, cluster meetings and advisory meetings
  • Attend training to advance instructional skill level in experiential training techniques.
  • Attend professional development related to your specialty.
  • Attend annual safety training for CTE instructors.
  • Policy Implementation :

  • Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, responsible and in compliance with the Professional Code of Ethics.
