The State of New Hampshire, Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Development Division has a full-time vacancy for Director of Agricultural Development.

Summary:


Administers the programs for the Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food, Division of Agricultural Development. Overseeing and making daily and long-term business decisions, reviewing and developing management strategies, gathering and disseminating information, assist and cooperate with stakeholders, organize and institute activities relative to agriculture in New Hampshire.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:

Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, business, consumer studies, or a related field.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.


Experience:

Three years' experience in public relations, communications, marketing, advertising, newspaper writing, magazine editing/management, customer service, or a related field.

Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.


License/Certification:
Driver's License.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


Excellent communication skills. Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point; Adobe Programs and others as needed.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:
Knowledge of and/or experience in the field of agriculture. Working knowledge of the departmental programs and ability to interpret policies, laws and operations and to stimulate public interest. Leadership skills, ability to plan and organize informational programs and to plan and direct the activities of subordinates. Ability to speak effectively before diverse interest groups and to effectively interact in meetings and discussion.**



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and/or outdoors in an educational and standard office environment and come in direct contact with internal and external stakeholders.



Responsibilities:


Responsible for the productivity, functionality and supervision of the Division of Agricultural Development. Developing goals, implement strategies, monitoring budget, reviewing reports, recommending policy changes and overseeing employees by performance review, hiring/firing, leave approval and assignment of duties.

Works with the Commissioner and independently on the creation and implementation of new program initiatives to encourage and strengthen agriculture in New Hampshire. Understands need assessment and strategic planning and to bring producers and consumers together in the marketplace through promotional initiatives and marketing programs.**
Prepares and manages federal grants, reports to the Commissioner of Agriculture the ongoing projects including timelines, budget and deliverables and the impact on the State of New Hampshire.

Execution and delivery of contractual services and cooperative agreements with federal, state, local government and non-profit organizations, for the purpose of education, promoting New Hampshire growers, protection of NH farms/farmlands and business planning and to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

Manages the annual New Hampshire presentation at the Eastern State Exposition (the Big E). Includes recruiting exhibitors, entertainers, staff for annual fair, arranging for decorative presentation of the site for the fair. Oversee facility/property maintenance and improvements. Act as official NH liaison with the Big E administration and implementing fair and state requirements for participation.

Represents the department at meetings and events and on numerous boards and committees. Includes public speaking, display creation/presentation, writing and event management, including "Big E", NH Farm, Forest & Garden Expo and others.

Oversees the design and content of agricultural industry publications (including the agency's publication of record, The Weekly Market Bulletin), industry information reports, advertising on behalf of the industry, presentation materials in print and/or electronic format, and oversight of the department official website.
