    Description

    At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) PRN role is for a licensed staff nurse. The RN PRN provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, performs nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatments, patient education, and medical records management. The RN PRN offers direct patient care efficiently to patients with various needs, collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure high-quality care and treatment outcomes. This position shows clinical competence in care provision, technology use, medication administration, and emergency management, advocating for patients' rights and serving as a patient and family ally.


    PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Establishes relationships with patients, families, and the healthcare team through therapeutic communication.
    • Contributes to teamwork, assists when needed, and fosters healthy work relationships.
    • Provides staff education, mentors others, and contributes to improving departmental scores.
    SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Adheres to patient and family-centered care standards, conducts nursing assessments, and collaborates on care plans.
    • Develops and communicates care plans, advocates for patients/families, and provides post-discharge care planning.
    • Delivers patient education, evaluates comprehension, and drives service satisfaction.
    QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Follows care standards and regulatory requirements, identifies areas for practice improvement, and ensures patient safety.
    • Coordinates care, utilizes clinical judgment, improves quality and safety scores, and collaborates with the healthcare team.
    FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Manages time effectively, documents care efficiently, and contributes to meeting financial targets.
    • Assists in resource utilization, budget needs, and optimizing efficiency.
    GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Identifies areas for innovation, presents improvement opportunities, and champions new care pathways.
    • Supports practice changes, researches innovations, and contributes to shared governance and leadership decisions.

    EDUCATION
    • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing
    WORK EXPERIENCE
    • Two years of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
    • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days
    • RN-Temp - Registered Nurse - Temporary State Licensure within 60 days
    • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
    • Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit/service line
    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - PREFERRED
    • Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification -- in applicable specialty area
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Demonstrates necessary skills and competencies, proficiency in English language, effective communication, critical thinking, and time management.
    • Functions independently, exercises judgment, uses clinical reasoning, and maintains professional contributions.
    • Works with Microsoft products including Outlook.
