Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and facilitates professional learning opportunities for special education service providers that promote achievement for all students in areas including curriculum, instruction, assessment, and classroom learning environment.
  • Collaborates with the Director of student services and peers to provide staff development, support, and direct and explicit feedback to teachers about the implementation of researchbased instructional strategies and programs and assessments.
  • Occasionally coteaches and models effective teaching strategies and observes program implementation, providing feedback to general and special education staff.
  • Conducts professional development opportunities for special education staff and implements and models new learning.
  • Meets regularly with teachers, other SpEd Development Specialists, school teacher leaders, and administrators to review data and make instructional decisions.
  • Supports teachers in their efforts to write and maintain practical, meaningful, effectual Individual Education Plans. Collaborates with special education service providers to reviews IEP's and support teachers' attainment of consistent compliance indicators in this area.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Special Services on reviewing data and guiding special education teams on data interpretation and making appropriate instructional decisions based on data and content specific to differentiated instruction including assisting teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing lessons.
  • Collaborates with teachers in planning for specific student learning outcomes based on assessed needs of individual special education teachers based on their current experience and skill level.
  • Observes, coaches, and serves as an instructional resource for teachers and paraeducators.
  • For select assigned students as a Case Manager, develop and write IEPs through the IEP Team; as well as coordinate and lead IEP Team meetings. Complete academic assessments and write Assessment Plans, Reports, Prior Written Notices, and other related IEP documents in preparation for IEPs or to assess ongoing progress, within appropriate timelines, and as needed.
  • Collaborate with specialists (OTs, SLPs and other related service providers) and school staff on monitoring student progress throughout the year, including annual IEP goal attainment.
  • Follow up and monitor service providers to confirm that IEP services are being delivered according to the terms of IEP, including Related Services Provider progress as reported by the Related Services Providers.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Documented successful experience as a teacher working in a multicultural environment.
  • Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member.
  • The ability to support teachers and supervise classified employees / paraeducators.
  • Must have strong computer skills including word processing, entering data into a database, using the internet, electronic mail, and other digital literacy skills.
  • Proficiency in SEIS and experience using SEIS in a professional capacity.
  • Ability to support teachers to develop a wide range of student assignment modifications aligned with general education teacher lesson plans, instruction, and assessments following the California State Standards.
  • Collaborate and be a positive "team player" with colleagues to affect the best outcomes for students
  • Ability to differentiate instruction according to varied learning styles and child cognitive and social development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • California Education Specialist Instruction Teaching Credential, or the ability to immediately qualify, required
  • Five years of documented successful teaching experience in a certificated special education position, required.
  • Experience working with students and families from historically underserved communities, strongly preferred

Salary:
$60, $80,000.00 per year
