Job Summary/Basic Function:


  • The Office of Financial Aid at Teachers College Columbia University is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor who will administer the College's
Federal Work-Study Program. The incumbent will assist in counseling students on financial aid decisions, policies and procedures, and financing options. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for counseling students, processing
aid requests, and assisting with budget reconciliation for the Federal Work-Study Program.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Support

  • Liaison with academic programs — counsel prospective, current, and former students on financial planning, aid decisions, and policies.
This includes scholarships, federal student aid, external aid, private loans, etc

  • Conduct presentations/assist with events related to financial aid in partnership with other offices (some events may occur in the
evenings/weekends)
Compliance and Regulations

  • Remain current on federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations.
Student Employment

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director/Director to ensure the College meets federal guidelines related to the Federal Work-Study
Program.

  • Monitor student and departmental allocations.
  • Manage regular communications with students and supervisors about spending
  • Support the Assistant Director with the approval and processing of Graduate Assistant
  • Personnel Action Forms
Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent of experience and training
  • 1 year of experience in Financial Aid or other related experience in higher education
  • Must demonstrate a strong interest in working in a serviceoriented, fastpaced
environment

  • Proven ability to creatively and analytically explore ways to improve services and
information provided to students.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks and activities
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information
  • Selfmotivated, wellorganized, and attentive to details.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Banner Document Management, Federal Student Aid
  • Databases (FAA, COD, and NSLDS), and Title IV regulations and need analysis.

Salary Range:

$52,000 - $59,000
