Position Objective:
In conjunction with the Manager, this position ensures the technical, regulatory and quality components for the assigned section of the Laboratory.
This position ensures that all work is organized and handled in accordance with the departmental protocols and serves as a resource to staff.
Essential Job Duties:

Researches, develops and modifies procedures, performs technical review and monitoring of existing procedures. Creates standard operating procedures and associated forms. Maintains the management of multiple projects and ensures goals and timelines are met.
Serves as the primary point of contact for Quality Control (QC) for the assigned area including monitoring, analyzing data, recommending solutions and implementing actions.
Provides technical expertise needed to establish compliance with any of the regulatory/accreditation agencies requirements related to testing, training and education, competency evaluation, proficiency testing, validation, and performance improvement.
Performs tests that require complex network of steps and variables, independent judgment, and interpretation while working the bench in any area of the department.
Recognizes non-standard situations, notifies supervisor and, if applicable, documents all corrective actions taken when test systems or processes deviate from the laboratory's established protocols.
Participates in department-specific improvement plans. Recognizes and responds to opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of service.Assists in establishing workload priorities in order to ensure maximum workflow efficiency.
Participates in the evaluation of employees during training and performance reviews.
Coordinates and participates in the training of new employees in assigned areas as well as provides educational opportunities for all staff.
Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with course work sufficient to meet the requirements of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Specialist or HEW (MT).
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience leading or supervising staff.
Required License/Certifications:
MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), categorical or specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT).
Preferred License /Certifications:
ASCP specialty certification in area of expertise.
Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands - Medium
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
