The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles.

The Archdiocese, pastored by Cardinal Blase J.

Cupich, has more than 13,000 employees in its systems and ministries, including Catholic Charities, the region's largest nonprofit social service agency.

The Archdiocese also has one of the country's largest seminaries. The Archdiocese's 154 elementary and secondary schools comprise one of the largest U.S. private school systems. Its schools have received 96 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Awards.


In light of the Mission of the Church and the Pastoral Center core values, the Secretary provides a variety of administrative duties to support the work of the Archbishop, especially those dealing with correspondence and archival matters.

The Secretary helps to create a working environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork with other members of the Archbishop's personal staff towards our common goals.


  • Performs general clerical and administrative functions.
  • Answers telephone calls, screens and directs caller to proper person.
  • Maintains working files, permanent and archival files.
  • Attention to detail and a keen sense of order.
  • Ability to learn and follow archival protocols and procedures.
  • Prepares and processes files for transfer to the Archdiocesan Archives and Records Center.
  • Receives information requiring strict discretionary judgement, maintaining confidentiality in all professional contacts.
  • Works in conjunction with other department personnel or administrators as needed in matters concerning the Archbishop's correspondence.
  • Coordinates some seasonal projects such as the Archbishop's Christmas card.
  • Assists with scheduling meetings.
  • Contributes and works collaboratively as a member of the Archbishop's office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or the Archbishop.

Experience:
Preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook with a basic knowledge of Excel.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Church structure and vocabulary.

Education:
Preferred

  • Bachelors or better
