JOB SUMMARY


Family Services of Westchester is seeking an experienced and hands-on full-time Controller to lead and manage the staff of the finance department and the day-to-day operations of the accounting, purchasing and revenue functions and their teams.

The controller excels in providing timely and accurate financial reporting to the Program Directors of FSW as well as to the executive leadership.

The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This position has 4 direct reports and a total departmental staff of 9.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCIAL OPERATIONS

  • Manage all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, revenue analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgets, fixed assets, cash management, financial planning, banking relationships, purchasing, investments, and required reporting.
  • Lead the finance staff in achieving departmental and individual goals in support of FSW's programs and organizational success through consistent, timely and accurate processes and reports.
  • Coordinate the development of operating, foundation, capital, and grant budgets.
  • Ensure monthly financial and operational reports are prepared on time and reviewed with CFO, including Income and Expense, Balance Sheet, Cashflow Analysis and Departmental Expense Reports.
  • Prepare analyses of regular monthly reports and review them with CFO, focusing on variance analysis, projections, recommendations for correction, and, where appropriate, solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Guide documentation of financial activities and timely and accurate preparation of annual audits by an independent Auditor, in addition to documenting business and financial plans for funding agencies.
  • Advise and assist the CFO in the financial modeling and development of timely and accurate project plans for new grants, sites, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate budgets for all new ventures and future programs.
  • Control Cash Management including Projections, follow up on A/R Collections and Cash Disbursements.
  • Prepare vacation accruals along with other various accruals.
  • Special projects as assigned.

MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for managing direct reports and their teams.
  • Provide daytoday management of monthly deliverables.
  • Provide timely and effective developmental feedback to staff including midyear reviews and annual performance evaluations.
  • Acting as the only direct report to the CFO, work closely to establish, implement, and monitor annual benchmarks that align with FSW's vision and business goals.
  • Oversees training and development of staff to improve quality and efficient work practices.
  • Direct and manage financial department personnel including goal, development, progress reviews and remuneration.
  • Responsible for managing staff's timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting.

COMMUNICATION

  • Participate in various presentations to all levels of leadership (including Board of Directors) in support of and collaboration with the CFO.
  • Monitor actualtobudget expenditures and communicate developments to CFO and appropriate staff.
  • Evaluate IT needs for the department and make recommendations for enhancements and changes, as required.

COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and legal regulatory requirements; advise senior management of actions and potential risks.
  • Oversee internal and external audits, including those of Federal, State, and local agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's degree; Masters' degree in Finance/Accounting or MBA with specialization in Finance/Accounting preferred.
  • 8+ years leading and managing a Finance department of at least 5 staff members.
years in finance, accounting, and related fields with an increasing scope of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of healthcare finance preferred, in particular Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance experience.
  • CPA, Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or Fellow of HFMA (FHFMA) desirable.
  • Financial modeling and budgeting.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills, including performance management, personal development, coaching, mentoring, and employee engagement management; ability to inspire and motivate others; commitment to strengthening the capabilities of the Finance team.
