    The Opportunity

    The Senior Planned Giving Advisor will build and steward
    OPB's Legacy Society, donors who've made a commitment to include
    OPB in their estate plans.

    This position plays a key role in
    OPB's priority to grow endowment and quasi-endowment funds.

    The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, and motivation to engage with donors on a highly personal level.

    Position Details

    The Senior Planned Giving Advisor (SPGA) is responsible for membership growth donor stewardship in
    OPB's Legacy Society—a recognition society for individuals who have made a commitment to include
    OPB in their estate plans.

    This position plays a key role in
    OPB's strategic priority to grow the endowment and quasi-endowment funds, and membership in the Legacy Society.

    The SPGA manages a portfolio of
    OPB's most loyal and committed donors and is responsible for building relationships with donors and soliciting their commitment to support
    OPB in their estate plan.

    This position will also provide strategic planning and personal follow-up to mass marketing leads and prospects.

    The SPGA will work collaboratively with the current Associate Director of Planned Giving on planned giving marketing and bequest administration.

    The SPGA will serve as a planned giving resource for the development department.
    Responsibilities
    75% – Portfolio Management –Planned Gifts

    Build relationships with a prioritized portfolio of approximately 150 donors and prospects with an emphasis on growing the Legacy Society and securing planned and blended gifts.

    Establish relationship building strategies and goals for each donor relationship and regularly evaluate and revise portfolio with the Director of Philanthropy

    Participate in all aspects of the donor relationship:

    • Prospect identification, qualification, exploration, solicitation and stewardship. SPGA may engage leadership volunteers, staff and other donors in this process.
    • Strategic review of leads from mass marketing promotions and personal follow-up with top leads.
    • Understand donor interests and
      OPB's content priorities and develop specific case for support with each donor/prospect.
    • Involve staff and leadership volunteers and highly engaged donors in the process as appropriate.
    • Make appropriate solicitations.
    • Works independently with direction and input from the Director of Philanthropy on strategies and evaluation of the portfolio. Establish and achieve metrics for meaningful contacts, prospect advancement, and revenue generation to meet project goals and unit goals.
    • Provide thoughtful, informative stewardship and follow up to ensure donors are well informed about the impact of their support and opportunities for future gifts.
    10% – Manage the orientation of new members and stewardship of the existing
    OPB Legacy Society members. Develop and implement stewardship activities including events and communications for new and existing Legacy members. Serve as a planned giving advisor for Development Department.
    Build relationships with estate planning attorneys, financial advisors, and other key stakeholders to promote
    OPB's planned giving program.
    10% – Assist in planned giving marketing strategies, events, and promotion.

    Assist and serve as back up for bequest administration program including working with senior staff in finance and legal to ensure bequest fulfillment.

    Develop and implement proper stewardship and acknowledgement of all estates.
    5% – Events and other duties
    Identify strategic opportunities for donor cultivation and stewardship events. Be an active participant in event execution and support immediate donor follow-up as appropriate.
    Working Conditions
    This position requires extensive use of a computer and telephone. Frequent work with donors may take place in virtual or in-person settings. Evening or weekend work is required to carry out events and meetings.

    Occasional travel is required largely within the region (Oregon and southwest Washington) to participate in and facilitate donor meetings, events and professional development training.

    Occasional out-of-state travel may occur for conferences. Some activities may require moving up to 40 lbs.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Genuine interest in and enthusiasm for
      OPB's public service mission and the ability to effectively articulate our case for support.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and compliance with
      OPB and AFP ethics policies and standards.
    • At least five years successful donor centered fundraising experience with evidence of increasing responsibility.
    • Proven ability to build relationships with donors, cultivate, solicit and steward planned and major donors.
    • Track record of success soliciting and closing six figure gifts.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of planned giving opportunities planned giving marketing and best practices.
    • Ability to determine and understand the needs and interests of donors to develop productive relationships with
      OPB.
    • Strong interpersonal skills. Comfortable discussing highly personal and confidential estate planning issues with donors.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills. Highly organized, motivated, proactive and goal driven. Attention to accuracy and completeness of work.
    • Able to engage in conversation with high-level donors and prospects on a variety of subjects relating to
      OPB's work such as journalism, culture, history; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, etc.
    • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage projects.
    • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
    • Technologically savvy, with fluent use of business software tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint), and fundraising CRMs.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Experience with digital engagement strategies and writing for promotional fundraising.
    • Effective use of project management software such as Aha.
    • Bachelor's Degree.
    Additional Information


    • This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy is unrepresented and benefits eligible.
    • The probable hiring range for this exempt position is between $71,000 – 88,700 annually, depending on qualifications.

      OPB has a mandatory COVID vaccination policy and all employees are required to show proof of vaccination.
    • This position has access to highly sensitive data and therefore must pass a background check.
    • This position requires a valid driver's license and will requires consent to
      OPB conducting a driving record check. Employees will not be allowed to use a company or personal vehicle for work purposes without completion and satisfactory results of this check.
