Description

We are looking for an exceptional
Research Scientist to join our Emerging Technologies team.

The team works on cutting-edge optical sensor research involving innovative design, selection, and implementation of emerging optoelectronic components, as well as system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.

As part of the team, you will work alongside other experienced scientists and engineers to develop novel, cutting-edge solutions to several challenging problems.

Understanding and experience with UV/VIS/IR active and passive components, optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic system design, image processing, Lidar-based atmospheric remote sensing, EO/IR sensors, night vision, and electronics are desired.

This is a hands-on research and development position with project management responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Technical Design & Development:

Lead new concept creation and architecture design, development, and implementation activities related to optical sensor systems development including:
Performance
Simulation
Field prototyping
Testing
Intellisense primarily uses COMSOL, ZEMAX, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python, LabVIEW, OpenGL and OpenCV libraries

Peer Review & Project Support:

Interact with government and nongovernment representatives to ensure customer requirements are fully understood and addressed.
Lead/provide technical writeups related to system, hardware, and software development on bids and proposals.
Fulfill other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

Technical Skills:

PhD in Photonics, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Good knowledge in laser propagation theory, spectroscopy, atmospheric measurements, design, building, testing, analysis, and evaluation of optical systems.
Ability to contribute to development, analysis and troubleshooting of component/optical system performance.

People & Communication Skills:

Ability to contribute and lead multiple programs simultaneously, achieving required results on time and on budget.
Ability to present technical concepts and designs to Senior Management and customers.
Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills to prepare technical proposals and documentation.

Nice to Haves:

Familiarity with any atmospheric laser propagation simulation software.
Experience with AI/ML algorithm development/implementation
Citizenship is preferred
Experience in writing proposals
Industry experience
Project planning and execution
Understanding/training on laser safety and tests standards
Familiarity with RF and fiber optic systems and devices
Experience in meta materials and devices
Experience with MWIR/LWIR imaging and sensing

Pay Range:

$103,000-$145,000

However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
