Description
Involves revenue cycle functions for the healthcare enterprise, including system billing, reporting, and support. Ensures account information contains accurate and comprehensive data to provide timely billing and optimal reimbursement for services. Impacts processes to include charge capture, coding, insurance identification, data entry, billing, payment posting, refund processing and collections. May also be responsible for / integrated with business office operations.


Department Description

  • The dermatology practices at UCSF Medical Center are regional centers offering a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients of all ages with cutaneous problems. We provide the most comprehensive skin cancer treatment program in Northern California, are the region's only vascular anomalies center and provide a complete psoriasis treatment program.
  • The Dermatology Clinic offers a wide range of treatments for patients with skin problems, including the following conditions: acne, autoimmune and connective tissue disease, HIVrelated skin disorders, mole, atypical nevus, melanoma surveillance, disorders of cornification, pigmented disorders, environmental dermatitis, rosacea, hair and nail disorders, wound and ulcer care, human papillomavirus (HPV). The procedures performed in the Dermatology clinics include, biopsies, incisions, Mohs surgery and cosmetic procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or two or more years of applicable experience
  • One or more years of Dermatologic Specialty professional coding and/or billing experience; or two or more years of relevant surgical office professional coding and/or billing experience.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of CPT4, ICD10, and HCPCS coding guidelines and policies
  • Knowledge in medical documentation and experience in medical record review or audit
  • Detailoriented, with organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments consistently on schedule.
  • Basic communication skills, with the ability to interpret and present clinical financial information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area
  • Certified Coder Certification
  • Knowledge of any or all of the following: billing, collections, charge capture, contractual adjustments, thirdparty reimbursements, and cash management.
  • Knowledge of reporting instruments, metrics and/or dashboard design.
  • Knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to learn to evaluate workflows and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff in a wide variety of business and clinical areas.

License/Certification

  • Certification: Ability to achieve Certified Professional Coder status within 24 months of employment.
