    Position Highlights
  • The Department of Biosystems Engineering is seeking applicants for the position of Research Technician II. The incumbent of this position will install and monitor soil moisture sensors across various field sites, and record and manage data in Excel. This position will be actively involved in conducting laboratory analyses, handson field data collection, including carrying an approximately 15lbs neutron moisture meter as well as loading and unloading it, along with its box (weighing 1020 lbs.), to and from the truck. Additionally, this position will assist with irrigation, gathering plant and soil data, collect remote sensing data using handheld crop circle devices and drones equipped with cameras and sensors and contributing to extension field day events.
This position is expected to last for one year

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install and monitor soil moisture sensors.
  • Conduct laboratory analysis.
  • Gather soil and plant samples and conduct plant measurements at both the University of Arizona Maricopa Ag Center and local farmers' fields as part of field experiments.
  • Utilize handheld devices and drones to gather remote sensing data for analysis.
  • Use of 15 lbs. neutron moisture meter and handling of the loading/unloading of the meter and its case during transport.
  • Analyze collected data and create visual representations using Excel and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist in extension events to effectively share knowledge and information.
  • Engage with farmers, providing support during field day events, and traveling to their farms to service sensor stations deployed for research initiatives.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift between 1020 pounds
  • Use of 15 lbs. neutron moisture meter and handling of the loading/unloading of the meter and its case during transport.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University
