    Job Description

    Position is responsible for oversight of several funded NIH research projects.

    MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as psychology, neuroscience, biology, sociology, public health, medicine or basic science.
    • Excellent written and oral skills
    CHARACTERISTIC WORK
    1. Oversee daily research operation and monitor scientific progress
    2. Manage multiple research projects through the development stage, which involves planning, development, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
    3. Work closely with PI and senior research associate and lead a research support team (subordinate data collectors, clinical studies coordinators, and laboratory technicians, graduate students) to facilitate progress of research projects.
    4. Perform quality control monitoring, implementation of study protocols, adherence to state and federal regulations and guidelines.
    5. Make knowledge-based decisions related to research projects and provide PI with recommendations that affect the design of the studies and completion of those studies.
    6. Performs a variety of procedures and techniques previously outlined by established protocols and other scientific data related to alcohol and drug abuse research.
    7. Must have experience working with human study participants and reviewing the work of subordinate staff including:
      1. Testing participants/data collection: involves administration of subjective, behavioral and physiological tests in the lab and off-site locations. Requires direct contact with study participants who may be smoking cigarettes. Must administer tests correctly (after training), show sensitivity to subjects and adhere to scheduling. Must be available for some off-hour and off-site appointments.
      2. Data entry, management and graphing: involves use of software packages to organize and analyze data. Must be able to manipulate data in several software programs to prepare data for evaluation and further analysis by study investigators, as appropriate.
      3. Subject recruitment and sustainment: includes placement of advertisements, conducting short telephone screening interviews, scheduling appointments, and reminding subjects of upcoming participation. Must be able to learn screen scripts and to interact with subjects on the phone with professional demeanor. Ability to organize and prioritize appointment schedule and notify subjects and investigators of changes.
      4. Maintains appropriate participant records as necessary. This includes recording participant study status and determining their continued eligibility in the study.
    8. Assist PI by drafting IRB, FDA, and planned NIH applications, library research, word processing, equipment maintenance, and database management.
    9. Draft manuscripts and progress reports for PI's review and edits.
    10. Develop pilot studies for new or planned proposals.
