- Ability to listen and communicate effectively
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology to interact with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and universal precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Able to prepare the drug solutions for administration in non-human primates (NHP), including specific doses and drug bottles in different concentrations
- Assist with training for new technicians and students regarding the proper care and use of NHPs, and the operation of lab equipment and instruments
- Assist the NHP surgery and behavioral training, and independently conduct different NHP behavioral and physiological assays
- Assist collecting the NHP tissues during the necropsy
- Coordinate with different internal units and prepare required paperwork to settle the NHP transportation among different campuses
- Assist editing the computer programming needed for the operant chambers with MedPC
- Perform intravenous catheter placement and maintain intrathecal catheter patency in awake, behaving NHPs
- Able to administer medical treatments to NHPs by different delivery routes and provide enrichments to NHPs
- Monitor health of NHPs while keeping detailed records of physiological and behavioral measures and surgical procedures
- Maintain and sanitize laboratory equipment unique to NHP research
- Able to order lab supplies to maintain proper inventory (chemicals, surgical supplies, animal enrichment/food, etc)
- Proficiency in using Microsoft excel and power point, & Med PC
- Research laboratory environment
- Frequent exposure to diseases, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a lab environment
- Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection)
- Exposure to glass and other breakable objects
- Exposure to animals

Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision from a higher level technician or a principal investigator, performs a variety of moderately complex and generally standardized physical, chemical, or biological tests with procedures and techniques previously outlined by established protocols and other scientific data. Provides direction and guidance to lab staff.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Zoology, or other related science, or high school diploma with four years of related clinical/ research experience.
