GIS and data Technician (Summer)

The University of Notre Dame is seeking a student to work during their summer break within our Facilities division on campus in Notre Dame, IN.

This will be an opportunity to gain real-world experience for a large real estate owner and learn how Geographic Information System (GIS) data collection and management impact the full life cycle of facility management while gaining hands-on experience with GIS systems and software.

This temporary Student GIS and data Technician position will have direct ownership of specific summer-long projects with the University Facilities Information (UFI) team to collect and maintain important floor plan, space, and asset data within our campus buildings.


Qualified applicants will have a strong desire to learn new things, a keen attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to see significant projects through from start to finish.

Specific experience with AutoCAD or GIS technologies is preferred but not required.

All work is required to take place on campus in Notre Dame, IN.


Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Digitize records and locations for integration with GIS databases
  • Use ArcGIS software to map the campus environment (training provided)
  • Field verification of physical assets, existing building conditions, and data accuracy
  • Update campus space and asset database data entry
  • Organization and filing of construction project drawings
  • General errands and deliveries of documents and drawings to campus
