Description

The SCAN Prevention Educator's primary role is to successfully facilitate child abuse prevention lessons to students in community preschool, elementary school, and middle school classrooms and to spread child abuse awareness messaging in the greater community.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Service Responsibilities

  • Provide KidSCAN lessons to select preschool sites in Racine County.
  • Provide Boss of my Body lessons to select kindergarten sites in Racine County.
  • Provide SCAN Stories lessons to select 2nd grade sites in Racine County
  • Provide SCAN lessons, on occasion, at schools in surrounding counties.
  • Make reports of disclosed or suspected child abuse to authorities.

Statistic Keeping and Funding Source Responsibilities

  • Gather evaluation data from students and teachers after SCAN lessons.
  • Maintain a timely and accurate record of evaluation data.
  • Assist with preparing outcome reports as directed by a supervisor.

Community Relations Responsibilities

  • Maintain and nurture relationships with school districts, social service agencies, funding sources, and other community professionals.
  • Market program services.
  • Assist with community presentations and tabling events.
  • Help plan and execute activities and events for Child Abuse Prevention Month.
  • Collaborate to maintain SCAN's social media presence.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work to improve SCAN services and activities to ensure the most effective programming.
  • Provide a vision for how SCAN can develop and grow into the future.
  • Attend and participate in staff development, including inservice training, staff meetings and professional seminars as required.
  • Assist with BeLEAF and SCAN fundraising activities.
  • Potentially work periodic evenings and weekends for special program events.
  • Perform other job duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work with limited supervision.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • The staff in this position must have a valid Driver's License and car
  • Motor vehicle check (MVR) and a satisfactory driving record required.
  • This staff member must pass a background check to assure their suitability to work with minors.
