Controller (FULL-TIME/PERMANENT)


The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks a Controller who will be at the forefront of our organization's financial operations, playing a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of our financial reporting.

Your responsibilities will encompass guiding the month-end closing process, producing comprehensive financial statements, managing grants and receivables, and coordinating budgeting activities.

We are seeking an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and exceptional leadership skills to uphold financial integrity and support strategic decision-making across our organization.


The Museum of Arts and Design has a mission to explore how craftsmanship, art, and design intersect in the visual arts today.

Through its exhibitions, programming, and collection, MAD promotes a view of the world unobstructed by traditional definitions of fine art.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time, exempt position with compensation between $110,000 - $130,000 per annum, depending upon experience. This is a 9:30am - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday onsite position.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Guidance and Monitoring:


  • Provide expert guidance and oversight to the monthend closing process, ensuring all financial activities are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor the progress of financial reporting tasks and address any issues or discrepancies that may arise.

Grant and Receivables Management:


  • Maintain meticulous records of all grants and receivables, ensuring compliance with the financial reporting requirements set forth by funders.
  • Review grant agreements to ensure adherence to reporting obligations and financial guidelines.

Financial Reporting:


  • Produce monthly financial statements, including the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities with budget comparisons, Cash Flow Statement, and comprehensive memos highlighting significant financial information.
  • Collaborate with senior management to review and analyze financial reports, providing valuable insights and recommendations.

Budget Development:


  • Collaborate with senior management and department heads to develop the annual budget, incorporating strategic priorities and financial goals.

Compliance and Reporting:


  • Update financial data on relevant reporting agency websites, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required information.
  • Prepare grant expense reports and financial statements for grant reporting purposes.

Financial Oversight:


  • Maintain organized work papers and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage disbursements, monitor outstanding checks, and oversee cash flow to optimize financial resources.

Audit and Compliance:


  • Liaise with external auditors to facilitate the completion of the annual financial statement audit.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Leadership and Collaboration:


  • Represent the organization at finance and audit committee meetings, providing valuable insights and recommendations to executive management.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to establish and achieve financial goals and objectives.

Supervision:


  • Supervise Assistant Controller, serving as back up as necessary.

Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in Financial Edge NXT and Raiser's Edge.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizational structure and accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and audit support.
  • Ability to manage Accounting and Finance professionals effectively.
  • Exceptional analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a crossfunctional team environment.
  • Genuine interest in the organization's mission.
  • Experience negotiating and reviewing contracts.
