Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Partnerships and the Assistant Director, CCCP, serve as the primary coordinator for an academic collaborative between one of our community college partners and UCLA in connection with the UCLA Center for Community College Partnerships.

This is a full-time, contract position for 12 months with the possibly of yearly extensions up to a max of 4 years.

Continuation of this appointment is contingent upon funding.

The Program Coordinator will facilitate the partnership between UCLA and one our of community college partners to develop and implement the partnership programs.

The program is designed to plan and implement a collaborative focusing on retention and transfer. Activities include a supplemental activities throughout the year.

The purpose is to teach students how to navigate the community college system; complete the appropriate coursework; and maximize their time in order to make a smooth and successful transition to a University of California or other four-year college or university campus.

Working with the Assistant Director and Assistant Vice Provost, the Coordinator will be responsible for the planning and implementing of all of the activities related to the program, including faculty discipline dialogues, mini conferences and meetings, Saturday Academies and Summer Programs; all of which requires the development of materials; communication to students, staff, faculty and administrators; hiring and training peer mentors; and overseeing the logĂ­stical and administrative aspects of the program.

In addition, the program coordinator will serve as liaison with other UCLA departments, community colleges, high schools, non-profit organizations, businesses and off-campus vendors.

The coordinator will engage in collaborative efforts with other university departments currently sponsoring outreach efforts, including Early Academic Outreach and Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools.

Establish and maintain liaisons with university units concerned with diversity issues including the Student-Initiated Outreach Committee, the Academic Advancement Program, the Center for Engineering Excellence and Diversity, the Center for Academic Research and Excellence, and other such programs.

The coordinator must professionally represent the University to the public, exercise a high-level of independent professional judgment, possess strong coordinating, supervisory, computer and communication skills and be extremely meticulous.

Must be able to maintain regular schedule and on-time attendance.

Qualifications

  • 1. Experience in developing outreach programs, and designing effective materials. (required)
  • 2. Experience in development and coordination of programs to motivate and prepare special and/or socioeconomically disadvantaged community college students for future attendance at the University. (required)
  • 3. Skill in speaking with individuals from various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds to explain academic rules and regulations, department policies and procedures, and administrative processes and programming. (required)
  • 4. Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar toobtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels. (required)
  • 5. Demonstrated skill in writing grammatically correct, concise, logical and analytical correspondence,reports, proposals, publications and guidelines. (required)
  • 6. Demonstrated ability in effective program management. Ability to prioritize work assignments andmanage multiple critical projects with deadlines. (required)
  • 7. Knowledge of state and national education policies and current education theories. (required)
  • 8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community college and University of California representatives. (required)
  • 9. Skill in event planning. Ability to coordinate the logistics of planning and implementation of small to large scale events. (required)
  • 10. Working knowledge of the academic mission of the University and the ability to enhance it through the programmatic vision. (preferred)
  • 11. Working knowledge of the campus environment including organizational structures, key administrators and rules and regulations. (preferred)
  • 12. Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Work, Microsoft Power Point, MicrosoftPublisher and Microsoft Access and knowledge of internet navigation. (required)
