Position Summary and Qualifications:


Salary assigned will be commensurate with experience.


Responsible for the supervision and performance of highly-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of heavy industrial equipment such as pumps, motors, electrical equipment, chemical feeders, and flow measurement devices used in water treatment.

Work is performed in and around the Water Treatment Facility (WTF), Re-pump Facilities, and Raw Water Well Fields. Work requires considerable judgment and is under the general supervision of the Water Resources Maintenance Supervisor.


Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment, mechanical and electrical SCADA equipment, and machinery commonly used in the water treatment industry.


Ability to:
- inspect and detect flaws in operating machinery, mechanical equipment and SCADA, and effect necessary repairs and/or adjustments.
- oversee and direct multiple repair crews simultaneously.
- forecast, plan and manage a maintenance budget.
- understand and follow complex and meticulous oral and written instructions.
- read and understand detailed blue prints of mechanical equipment and distribution piping.
- read and record meters and gauges indicating elapsed time, pressure and flows. Ability to use precision measuring equipment for shaft alignment. Ability to use plasma cutting equipment and metal insert gas (MIG) or tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding equipment.
- create and maintain detailed spreadsheets.


Possesses considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and standard safety precautions associated with the construction, operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.


Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma accepted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and a minimum of five (5) recent years in the installation, operation, and maintenance of Water Treatment Equipment.

Possesses basic knowledge of Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
Must possess and maintain a State of Florida required Level "2" Water Distribution License. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida CDL Class "A" driver's license. Must possess and maintain a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification.

Installs repairs and maintains all Water Resources Department equipment including, but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, chemical feed equipment, pneumatic controls, compressors, tanks and related components.

Maintenance includes, but is not limited to, checking shaft wear sleeves, manufacture recommended tolerances, proper periodic lubrication, adjustment of packing glands, installation of mechanical seals, proper pump sequence, checking for pump and motor vibration, shaft alignment and bearing installation.

Evaluates Water Resources Department equipment and recommends repair or replacement schedules. Schedules repairs so as not to disrupt facility processes.
Researches and prepares bid documents for the repair or replacement of mechanical equipment.

Trains, instructs, mentors and supervises all maintenance personnel in the operation and maintenance of all mechanical aspects of equipment associated with Water Resources Department.

Schedules equipment replacement/repairs projects with consultants, engineers and Operations Supervisor.
Researches and purchases necessary equipment, tools and materials. Maintains accurate records on labor, equipment and materials used on jobs.
Creates and maintains accurate, sustainable asset management programs to ensure timely budget requests and replacement of equipment.
Performs daily mechanical equipment inspections of plant and associated equipment.
Maintains pertinent documentation of all maintenance functions performed in the Water Resources Department work order program.
Ensures compliance with all safety standards in accordance with FPUA's Safety Program.
Routinely evaluates performance of all assigned personnel and completes timely written performance evaluations.
