Teacher Assistant with Medical Background/Experience Preferred


The Monarch School and Institute provides an innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological differences—such as those associated with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury and seizure disorders.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcarerelated field (e.g., Nursing, Health Sciences, or a related discipline) preferred
  • High school diploma required
  • Experience working with individuals with neurological differences or special needs is preferred

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Medical Support:
  • Monitor and document students' health and medical needs throughout the school day.
  • Assist in managing students' medical emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and Professional Educators to ensure the wellbeing of students.
  • Classroom Assistance:
  • Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans for students.
  • Flexible and able to move with young, active students.
  • Support students in classroom activities, ensuring they stay engaged and on task.
  • Be part of a team that values and builds a structured and inclusive learning environment that accommodates students with diverse needs.
  • Behavioral Support:
  • Implement behavior management strategies in accordance with the school's policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the behavioral support team to address and manage challenging behaviors.
  • Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere for students, promoting social and emotional growth.
  • Provide support for toileting needs as needed.
  • Participate in Safety Care training.
  • Data Recording:
  • Maintain accurate records of students' medical needs, behaviors, and progress.
  • Assist in tracking and documenting goals and objectives.
  • Share observations and insights with the teaching and therapy teams to facilitate individualized support.
  • Communication:
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
  • Communicate regularly with Professional Educators regarding students' progress and any medical concerns.
  • Attend team meetings and professional development sessions as required.
