Department Summary:

UCLA's Division of Undergraduate Education serves as the campus-wide advocate for undergraduate education, promoting academic success for UCLA's diverse undergraduate population by providing leadership to achieve the highest quality of teaching and learning and ensuring options for students to engage in a challenging array of educational opportunities, from foundational to advanced research and capstone projects.

The HR Generalist will work as a member of the human resources team to provide support to the diverse team that makes up DUE.

On average we employ about 1,500 individuals during the academic year which consists of academic staff; career, limited, and contract staff; Academic Students; and undergraduate, graduate and work study student employees.

Additionally, we hire and support anywhere from part-time employees during the summer months.

DUE HR has the added responsibility of providing support to employees who are geographically spread out in several locations across campus, 8 high schools which are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and two workforce centers in West Los Angeles and the Pico Union neighborhood of Central Los Angeles.

Salary & Compensation:
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications:

  • Ability to function effectively with multiple deadlines, changing priorities and frequent interruptions while handling a fluctuating workload. (required)
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding personnel and payroll. (preferred)
  • Ability and judgment to deal with confidential and sensitive information with discretion. (required)
  • Experience using the UCPath (PeopleSoft), Payroll Time Reporting (PTR) systems, and other online systems (ICIMS, JDXpert, Jasmine, GoGrad, CDW, DocuSign, and Zoom). (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (i.e. Word, Excel, and Access). (required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing standard payroll operations including auditing, timekeeping documents, computing and preparing payroll and reconciling payroll ledgers. (required)
  • Working knowledge of payroll/personnel issues as they pertain to academic apprentice personnel. (required)
  • Working knowledge of University Work-Study Programs including policies and procedures and ability to recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate student staff. (required)
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the differences in reporting time between exempt and nonexempt employees. (required)
  • Ability to serve as functional unit resource to Directors, Managers, and support staff in explaining personnel and payroll policies and procedures, and in utilizing capabilities of data management systems. (required)
  • Ability to analyze a complex set of data and make recommendations based on this analysis. (required)
  • Skill in analyzing problems and the ability to formulate effective solutions. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or equivalent experience/training (required)
  • HR Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) (preferred)
