DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Finance Department is responsible for all financial and accounting matters of the Centers' ten locations throughout the Los Angeles area.

There are a wide variety of areas within the Finance department, including treasury, accounting, government grants, tax, contracts, Payroll and risk management.

The Finance Department is a team of hardworking individuals who are committed to provide timely financial reporting, so that the Center can continue to provide much needed services to the community.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Payroll Supervisor at the Los Angeles LGBT Center plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll activities for the organization.

Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, the Payroll Supervisor oversees the accurate and timely payroll processing for our workforce, compliance with federal and state regulations, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

The Payroll Supervisor maintains the integrity of payroll data, resolves payroll-related issues, and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Additionally, the Payroll Supervisor collaborates with cross-functional teams, provides expertise on payroll matters, and ensures high customer service for employees regarding payroll inquiries and concerns.

This position requires high attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to upholding the Center's values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the endtoend payroll process, including data entry, verification, processing, and distribution of payroll for all employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax withholding, wage garnishments, and employment laws.
  • Coordinate with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to payroll processing.
  • Stay uptodate on federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant requirements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual reports, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with tax obligations. Respond to inquiries from tax authorities as needed.
  • Collaborate with external vendors, such as payroll service providers and benefit administrators, to ensure seamless integration and accurate processing of payrollrelated transactions.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports, summaries, and analyses to management and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of payroll policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Assist in the implementation of payroll system upgrades, enhancements, and process improvements to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
  • Manage the internal and external payroll audits by providing related documentation and supporting information as needed.
  • Utilize payroll software systems effectively to streamline processes and maximize efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance payroll systems and procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and user experience.
  • Manage and deliver training and support to staff on payrollrelated policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Delegate payroll related projects to the Payroll Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
  • A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in payroll processing and team management, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare environment.
  • Strong background managing ADP Payroll and reporting systems.
  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or GED. A bachelor's degree in accounting or related fields is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or equivalent certification a plus.
  • Working knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices, particularly in the state of California.
  • Proficiency in payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to review and reconcile complex payroll data accurately.
