Job Description Summary


The Associate Director of Student Life and Wellness works with and reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to manage student affairs for all degree programs and create a supportive, responsive environment in which students can thrive, academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Associate Director plays a key role in integrating student support services across all degree programs, including crisis intervention planning.

In the absence of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs this role joins the procedures for handling student concerns.

The position supports the creation and delivery of programs and services that foster a positive student experience, paying close attention to the unique needs of international students, students of color, LGBTQ students, and first-generation low-income students.

Additionally, the position connects with staff and faculty advisors in all academic programs, and Alumni mentors through the SP2 Mentor Collective, to convene relevant school representatives to troubleshoot and plan for a student support strategy.

The Associate Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of SP2's New Student Orientation, convocation, and graduation. This position has one direct report.

  • All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide advocacy, mentoring and support for students in all degree programs, demonstrating an understanding of the unique needs of students of color, LGBTQ students, international students, and firstgeneration lowincome students. Actively work to support the implementation and success of SP2's threetier advising system. Create programing that supports the wellness, academic and professional success of SP2 students across programs by working closely with faculty, students, campus resources and alumni.
  • Design, develop, and distribute information to new students in all degree programs, collaborating with the Director of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid as needed. Plan and execute new student orientations for all degree programs; attend University NSO planning meetings. Develop and implement assessment and evaluation procedures for NSO; analyze results and make changes accordingly. Plan, manage, and execute SP2 Graduation ceremony and events. Collaborate with Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership to plan and execute SP2's New Student Orientation, Convocation, and graduation duties annually. Coordinate with SP2 staff regarding required participating for these events.
  • Provide firstlevel counseling and advising to students in distress/expressing concerns regarding their academic, social, or emotional experiences. Liaise with, and connect students to, SP2 and campus resources and services (e.g., cultural resource centers, Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Office of Learning Resources, Student Disabilities Services, Graduate Student Center, Housing Office, Office of International Programs). Provide case management services for high need students as required.
  • Attend VPUL student affairs liaisons meetings, student disabilities liaisons meetings, and career services liaison meetings, representing SP2's voice and perspective. Report issues and actionable items to the Associate Dean and make recommendations for responses/changes as needed.
