Position Focus:
The Lower School Media specialist plays a vital role in promoting literacy, technology proficiency, and community engagement among students in grades PreK-6.

Position Parameters:
Library Management:
- Manage the school library/media center, including cataloging, organizing, and maintaining a diverse collection of print and digital resources.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for library usage, circulation, and resource accessibility.
- Oversee the selection and acquisition of ageappropriate materials to support curriculum objectives and student interests.
Instructional Support:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and deliver instructional units that integrate library resources, technology tools, and research skills.
- Provide guidance and support to students in accessing, evaluating, and effectively using information resources for academic projects and personal inquiry.
- Conduct information literacy instruction sessions to teach students research skills, digital citizenship, and ethical use of information.
Technology Integration:
- Stay current with emerging educational technologies and digital resources relevant to elementary education.
- Assist teachers in integrating technology tools and digital resources into classroom instruction to enhance student learning and engagement.
Promotion of Literacy and Reading Culture:
- Foster a love of reading and literacy by organizing engaging library programs, author visits, and book fairs.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement reading incentive programs and initiatives to promote independent reading habits among students.
- Curate and promote ageappropriate reading materials to cater to diverse interests and reading levels.
Community Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between the school library/media center and the broader school community, including parents, caregivers, and community organizations.
- Organize and participate in events that promote family literacy and community involvement in the school library/media center.
- Communicate library programs, services, and resources through newsletters, social media, and other communication channels
Morning Show Coordination:
- Coordinate and oversee the production of the school's student led morning show, including scheduling segments, preparing content, and managing technical aspects.
- Work with students and teachers to develop engaging and informative segments for the morning show, such as news updates, weather forecasts, and special features.
Qualifications:
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to create technology lessons to support teaching objectives.
- Proficient with Mac OS/Macbooks, iOS/iPads, Microsoft/Outlook/Teams, and related software.
- Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or Computer Science, Master's Degree preferred
- Valid teaching certification or librarian/media specialist certification.
- Experience working with elementary school students in an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of children's literature, literacy development, and educational technology
- Must have wide range of instructional technology
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills
