- Preparing accessible materials such as transcripts, large print guides, and closed captioning
- Developing alt-text for the Whitneys online collection
- Supporting virtual programs and in-person events
- Aiding in access programs by creating presentation materials for freelance educators
- Researching and producing touch objects for programs dedicated to individuals who are blind or have low vision, Verbal Description and Touch tours
- Assisting in the setup and dismantling of ASL programs, Whitney Signs
- Compiling resources for Whitney staff on accessibility within the Museum
- Occasional support for programs on weekends and/or evenings
- Passionate about and have some knowledge of contemporary art and social movements, such as disability justice
- Currently pursuing or recently obtained a degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field
- Proficiency in Spanish or ASL is a bonus
- Undergraduates and graduates enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
- Applicants must have completed at least one years worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
- While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students from all majors are encouraged to apply
- Prior museum experience is not mandatory
- Training on Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook

Description
The Whitneys Academic Year Internship program provides a paid opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship involves a mix of onsite work. For Fall 2024, interns are expected to commit approximately 16-21 hours per week over 10-12 weeks, totaling 200 hours in duration. Interns will be assigned to a specific department at the Museum.

The Whitney is looking for an Access Programs and Initiatives intern for the Fall 2024 semester.
The Access Programs and Initiatives division at the Whitney focuses on creating avenues for disabled visitors to connect with the depth and intricacy of American art. By developing programs and initiatives centered on accessibility, the division aims to establish lasting relationships with various disability communities. The collaborative efforts between Whitney staff, freelance educators, and access workers drive the initiatives of the Access division.
Expected Projects & Assignments
Interns will receive a stipend of $3000.
