The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:

Position:
Department Head of School Counseling

The Department Head of School Counseling oversees the school counseling department at Durfee High
School and provides support for all school counseling related functions at the high school.


Required Qualifications:


  • Masters Degree from an accredited institution
  • Appropriate Massachusetts Licensure / Certification for Supervisor/Director
  • Minimum of three years of successful school counseling or related experience

Performance Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate School Counselors at Durfee High School in collaboration with the Director of School Counseling
  • Coordinates the organization and implementation of Durfees comprehensive, developmental school counseling
curriculum to support students academic growth, social-emotional learning, and post-secondary needs; ensures
alignment to the ASCA National Model and school improvement goals.


  • Collaborate with Durfees administrative team to create equitable and inclusive school-wide systems that (1)
support student attendance and engagement, and (2) promotes on time graduation and (3)increases college and
career outcomes


  • Coordinate college/career events, fairs, and info sessions; plans student award ceremonies/celebrations throughout
the school year


  • Design credit / grade recovery opportunities for off track Durfee High School students to increase on-time
graduation rates


  • Work with Special Education Supervisor and Multi-Language Learner Department Head to meet the diverse
needs of special education and Multilingual Learner (MLL) programming.


  • Create and implement a master schedule (under the direction of school principal) that meets the school
improvement goals as well as the needs of students; adjusts the master schedule throughout the year based on
student and staffing needs.


  • Plan, develop, and supervise all aspects of the course selection/student scheduling process (under the direction of
school principal); including publishing the Program of Studies.


  • Coordinate PSAT and SAT testing and supports AP and MCAS testing in collaboration with the Associate
Principal and Assessment Specialist


  • Provide leadership and support to Durfee school counselors through the facilitation of weekly PLC and promotion
of other professional development opportunities


  • Promote the use of data-driven decision making that is responsive to student needs
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of School Counseling and/or school principal
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable
alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the
Fall River School Committee.

Terms of Employment:
In accordance with the Fall River Administrators Association contract. Continued
employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding.

23-24 SALARY RANGE 89,319 to 110,560
