About the Assistant Shelter Case Manager Position:

PURPOSE OF POSITION


Under the direction of the Shelter Program Manager, the Assistant Case Manager assists the Shelter Case Manager in providing comprehensive case management, advocacy, community-based resource referrals, and crisis intervention for shelter residents.

The Assistant Case Manager is responsible for working with the Shelter Case Manager to assist clients in formulating individual case plans that promote movement toward self
- sufficiency as well as monitoring resident's progress and needs to fulfill the individual plan. This position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of a human rights, strengths-based approach in serving clients. The Assistant Case Manager should be familiar with and employ key social work values, including client empowerment, professional boundaries, and self
- care. He/she should also possess client management knowledge, independent decision-making ability, and excellent interpersonal and team-building skills. This position requires field work and travel throughout Los Angeles County to develop and work with partners and to provide services to trafficking survivors in the Los Angeles region.

The position requires social work skills (particularly in crisis intervention and conflict resolution) and cultural competency. It also requires strong assessment and service planning skills, and strong administrative skills.

The Assistant Case Manager should possess a high level of maturity, flexibility, and awareness of the dynamics of shelter living with the ability to work independently and with others.

Full time, hourly position.

Assistant Shelter Case Management:

Assist Shelter Case Manager in providing survivor-driven, client-centered timely and professional case management for domestic and foreign national victims of human trafficking.


  • Assist Case Manager, as needed, in conducting safety assessments to determine eligibility to enter shelter;
  • Assist Case Manager, as needed, in providing linkage to appropriate resources, follow up, and tracking outcomes;
  • Under the direction of the Shelter Case Manager, help clients coordinate, health, mental health, legal, employment, education, criminal/civil case, and DPSS appointments and accompany/drive clients as needed;
  • Under the direction of the Shelter Case Manager, assess the need for and distribute emergency funds and resources to clients;
  • Ensure that residents' rights and needs are protected;
  • Provide or coordinate client accompaniment as needed;
  • Manage case files and provide detailed progress notes in hard copy files and in database on a _daily_ basis;
  • Assist in facilitating house meetings and workshops for residents;
  • Able to work independently and respond to crisis and/or emergency situations; and
  • Uphold policies and procedures that contribute to the safety and confidentiality of the CAST Program.

Client Advocacy and Outreach:
Ensure that client rights and needs are protected at local service delivery level and by service providers.

  • Identify barriers to services and advocate for higher quality of services with external service organizations;
  • Ensure protection of identify and confidentiality in line with survivor's safety, needs and preferences; and
  • Advocate for culturally and linguistically appropriate services for clients.

Intake Process:
Manage hotline calls, intakes, and orientation during intake hours
