Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Specialist to join our team.

As a Behavioral Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to individuals with behavioral challenges.

Your expertise and skills will help improve their quality of life and promote positive behavior changes.


SUMMARY


Under the direct supervision of the Behavior Specialist, assist in monitoring behavior, data collection and evaluation, training staff and caregivers, performing face to face modeling positive behavior supports and intervention techniques for instruction of individuals.

Work with Interdisciplinary Teams including families, Supports Coordinators, and caregiver staff.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR TASKS

  • Assist in the referral process for behavior support services through assessment, direct observation of individuals and interviews of caregivers.
  • Participate in the Functional Behavior Assessment process through data collection, and direct and indirect assessment and data collection methods.
  • Contribute to the Behavior plan development and maintenance through observations, evaluation of plan success and analysis of documentation.
  • Participate in training caregivers in plans and techniques and meet regularly to observe the performance of plan implementation offering coaching to caregivers as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of various activities and methods used as part of behavior support plans such as task analysis, social stories, constructing picture communication boards and other visual aids as appropriate.
  • Gather documentation from caregivers including review for completeness and accuracy and follow-up to obtain missing documentation or missing information.
  • Maintain required 24 hours of training yearly and any additional training requested by Behavior Specialist
  • Attend bi-weekly supervision with Behavior Specialist
  • Attend meetings and organizational training as required.
  • Ability to travel from one location to another both in organizational locations and in community locations where observations and other duties can be performed with the individuals. This may be across various times of day and day of the week; some weekends may be required in order to observe behaviors in the context that they are occurring.
  • Ability to provide no less than 80% of total hours as billable services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / PREREQUISITES
1.

a.

Ability to effectively communicate with individuals served, staff, supervisors, management, and co-workers using professional and understandable language skills; verbally, in reading, written work and comprehension.

b. Communication must be consistent with the core values of the organization. Ability to communicate in a manner that contributes to a harmonious work environment.

c.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as short correspondence, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


  • Ability to write behavior related reports and correspondence.
a. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to individuals, caregivers, and other professionals.

b. Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret clinical reports, behavioral documentation and journal articles.

b. Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.

Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and behavioral issues, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM IV, child development, individual, group, and family treatment methodologies.

e. Knowledge and the ability to utilize good listening skills and comprehend verbal instructions given in English.

f. Ability to organize, prioritize work assignments, schedules, and meet deadlines.

g. Ability to collect and analyze data.

h. Ability to conduct functional behavior assessments.

i. Ability to work under pressure of time constraints.

j. Ability to build healthy therapeutic relationships.

k. Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.

l. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

m. Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.

Ability to implement individualized behavior plans as well as recognizing where adjustments or revisions are needed and communicating with the Behavior Specialist.
