    Overview

    We are looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to lead our teams of engineers and architects who design, build, and maintain our data center, network, store technology, and mobility platforms. You will be responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and roadmap for our platform engineering, as well as ensuring the quality, reliability, and security of our infrastructure and systems. You will also oversee the financial accountability of our platform engineering budget, which is around $10M annually.

    Responsibilities
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform engineers and architects who are responsible for data center, network, store technology, and mobility platforms.
    • Define and communicate the vision, strategy, and roadmap for platform engineering, aligning with the company's goals and priorities.
    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, reliable, and secure platform solutions that meet the needs of our internal and external customers.
    • Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and processes for platform engineering, including architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
    • Collaborate with other senior leaders, product managers, and stakeholders across the organization to understand the business requirements and provide platform engineering solutions.
    • Manage the platform engineering budget, resources, and vendors, ensuring the optimal utilization and allocation of funds and assets.
    • Stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in platform engineering, and evaluate and adopt new tools and methodologies as appropriate.
    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • At least 10 years of experience in platform engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale, complex, and mission-critical platform engineering projects.
    • Expertise in data center, network, store technology, and mobility platforms, including cloud, hybrid, and edge computing, network architecture and security, and mobile device management.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others.
    • Strong business acumen, financial management, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to balance short-term and long-term objectives.
    • Demonstrated track record of managing complex budgets and driving efficiencies.
    • (Strongly Preferred) Familiarity with the following:
      • Cloud Computing - Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform
      • Enterprise Collaboration - Office365 and Active Directory
      • Hypervisor - VMware ESXi, Nutanix AHV
      • Networking - Cisco Nexus, Palo Alto firewalls, Prisma SD-WAN, Meraki MS/MR, F5 LTM/GTM
      • Endpoint management - VMware Workspace One and Microsoft InTune
      • Content Delivery - Fastly, Cloudflare
      • Database Services - Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
      • Data Protection - Cohesity, Rubrik
      • Enterprise Monitoring - Solarwinds, Dynatrace
      • Service Management - ServiceNow
    • (Preferred) Strong knowledge of platform engineering tools, technologies, and methodologies, such as DevOps, CI/CD, automation, orchestration, monitoring, and testing.
    • (Preferred) Experience in a retail environment including Point of Sale systems, Supply Chain integration, Merchandising systems and custom developed applications
