JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a qualified and experienced level professional classification in the information technology job family.

Incumbents perform a range of duties that demonstrates knowledge of expected functional requirements or performance specifications within assigned IT functional area.

Work is designed to provide experience and training in an assignment requiring previous formal learning and equivalent training. Work is performed under the supervision of a more senior professional.


Examples of Duties:


  • The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town's needs._
  • Works with assigned departments to understand and evaluate business needs; conducts needs assessments, creates/evaluates standard operating procedures, develops functional and process requirements, and creates process flow documentation; participates in implementation testing; and provides training in functional areas.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities, delivery roadmaps, new business processes and associated system requirements.
  • Performs software implementations; provides training; prepares system and program documentation; debugs and implements solutions for assigned programs.
  • Works with supervisor to plan, prioritize, and deliver systems enhancements; supports and upgrades implemented systems; collaborates with vendors on system performance; performs quality assurance of systems; investigates performance complaints.
  • Identifies and researches trends and developments and makes recommendations on software and hardware needs; collaborates with vendors, consultants and staff and assists with the procurement and evaluation process on software and hardware related purchases.
  • Works with designated IT staff to coordinate, design, schedule and perform enduser training of business systems to improve employee efficiency in daily business operations; produces training material to document business and system rules, processes, and procedures; may supervise the work of outside consultants and contract staff.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software challenges for assigned department.
  • Provides frontline service to department endusers on software and hardware related challenges; serves as the single point of contact with the department; coordinates with vendor support on all issues.
  • Creates system reports and extracts data for special system reports to monitor the appropriate use of the system; provides records for audits and/or other special purposes.
  • Monitors, updates, and maintains existing software interfaces to ensure that the interface exchanges data properly on a routine basis and during software updates.
  • Guides and oversees acceptance and functional testing; coordinates user acceptance testing with QA and business owners; develops test plans to verify logic of new or modified programs.
  • Work with the appropriate IT staff to coordinate projects, troubleshoot issues and assist with technical support.
  • Provides assistance to designated supervisor or IT manager in meeting deadlines and schedules, develops internal and external meeting objectives and agendas, prioritizes multiple tasks effectively, understands expectations that were set with the customer and recognizes when issues/events may affect delivery.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
