SUMMER ACTIVITY SPECIALIST


The activity specialist will have specialized skills and interests in one or more disciplines or content areas to lead and implement an activity such as arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or organized sports.

Regardless of discipline, activities are to be sequenced, skill-building activities.

  • Assist in the development of ageappropriate activities in one or more discipline or content areas.
  • Provide direct supervision of youth activities.
  • Assist in maintaining daily attendance records for program participants.
  • Assist in the provision of basic counseling services as needed (peermediation, selfcontrol, decision making)
  • Accompany youth on cultural and recreational field trips.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe environment for program participants.
  • Actively participate in all professional development sessions, supervision and team meetings
  • Adhere to agency policies, and procedures.
  • Assume other duties as needed.

Must be able to work in Dyker Heights/ Bayridge, Brooklyn.

SUMMER ACTIVITY SPECIALISTS must be available to work Monday - Friday from a range of 8 am to 5 pm, when scheduled.

Requirements:


  • High School diploma and two years' experience working with youth or an Associate's degree in child development, recreation or a related field.
  • Must be available Monday
  • Friday from 8am6pm.
  • CPR and RTE certification preferred.
  • Experience in working with diverse communities, and knowledge of multicultural issues including race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Specialized skills in one or more disciplines such as arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or organized sports.
  • Experience designing and implementing sequenced, skillbuilding activities and developing lesson plans.
