    Description

    Summary:
    All pharmacy technicians work under Clinical Pharmacists' guidance to provide pharmacy services with compassion, excellence, and efficiency.

    CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB), located in downtown New Braunfels, is a full-service, 94-private bed facility expanding to meet the area's growing population needs.

    Innovative equipment and procedures like an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a modernized birthing center with 24/7 neonatal care, emergency services, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery are utilized.


    Responsibilities:

    • Meets expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Pharmacy Technicians perform non-judgmental technical duties under a pharmacist's direct supervision.
    Operational Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist Pharmacists with Medication Histories.
    • Train Tech I associates.
    • Prepares drug orders per physician request following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Verifies patient medication records accurately. Maintains complete patient drug record.
    • Compounds pharmaceuticals accurately, including non-sterile and sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
    • Dispenses controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains required records.
    • Provides services efficiently and promptly.
    • Ensures departmental daily activities are complete and recorded.
    • Maintains competency necessary for the position
    • Keeps current technician license. Attends staff meetings.
    • Retains IV certification and competencies.
    • Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements.
    • Specializes in areas such as the operating room, IV room, or other pharmacy work areas.
    • Provides ambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned, such as anticoagulation clinics, intensive medical home, transition of care, Discharge Medication reconciliation, etc.
    • Performs outpatient distributive functions related to entering and selecting prescriptions orders, and coordinating medication delivery for patients.
    Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies for patients following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Reads, extracts, and interprets information in patient medical records accurately.
    • Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and promptly.
    • Manages the hospital drug formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
    • Provides accurate drug information to the pharmacy associates.
    • Coordinates pharmacist drug education to patients and their families per institutional protocol.
    • Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities. Collects data and maintains documentation as assigned.
    • Conducts designated interventions as defined in clinical activities.
    • Follows departmental standards for reporting interventions.
    • Provides efficient services.
    • Potential exposure to hazardous substances, needle sticks, musculoskeletal injuries, and biologic material.

    Requirements:
    High School Diploma or equivalent.3-5 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
    Meet all criteria of Pharmacy Technician I.Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice required.
    Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
    ACPE accredited IV certification program, including hazardous (minimum 40 hours); or meet minimum State requirement.
