Job Summary


The next Dean will develop and implement strategies to address a key period of evolution and growth in face-to-face and online academic veterinary medicine and veterinary medical and nursing curricula, while continuing to support and expand development of the next generation of Day-One competent self-sufficient veterinarians, ready to lead in the State of Indiana, the United States, and the world.

Doing so is a crucial and high-profile step toward Purdue's declared goal of becoming a top-five public land grant research university, and expectations and potential rewards for the next leader will be commensurately high.


Together the timing and scope of this role make it a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fundamentally transform and expand both the reach and the physical footprint of research and teaching in Purdue's thriving suite of Veterinary Medicine programs, making them truly and sustainably world leading.

The next Dean will also lead efforts to enhance current clinical strengths and to develop new areas of strength and revenue, while supporting the recruitment, retention, development, and success of all faculty, residents, interns, staff and students within a strengthening academic veterinary medical center of excellence.


The next Dean will also leverage and build on substantial forward momentum in engagement, philanthropy, and development, in building external relationships and partnerships, and in growing financial resources to support the elevated profile of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue.

The next Dean will also continue to be an enthusiastic advocate and proponent of veterinary Medicine within Purdue and externally with state and national government, organized veterinary medicine, a range of business and industry entities, clients, alumni, and local and regional referring veterinarians.

The next Dean will be fiscally responsible, while balancing the investments and risk needed to achieve the stated goals, and will demonstrate agility, creativity, and innovation in navigating evolving opportunities and threats.
