Description
This is water conveyance systems work directing, through subordinate supervisors, either the repair and maintenance activities for the sewage and storm water collection system, or the water distribution system, or a comprehensive maintenance, repair, inspection and monitoring program for the water pumping systems.
An employee in this class functions as a senior technical expert in the area of specialization, as an assistant to a Water Conveyance Systems Superintendent, and is responsible for directing subordinate supervisors overseeing an area of the sewage and storm water collection system, the water distribution system, the emergency response system, or an area of the water pumping system.
Contact with departmental personnel, contractors, public utilities and the general public to coordinate a major phase of conveyance operations is a significant aspect of the work.

Minimum Training, Education & Experience
1. CIVIL
SERVICE
STATUS**:
- Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the
Water Department with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.
AND
2. EDUCATION**:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
3. GENERAL
EXPERIENCE**:
Six years of experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of water conveyance systems or in the maintenance and repair of large industrial pumping equipment.
AND
4. SPECIFIC
EXPERIENCE**:
Distribution Specialty
Three years of experience, as a Water Conveyance Supervisor, Distribution specialty, directing, through subordinate supervisors, repair and maintenance work for a water distribution district or for a specialized City-wide water distribution function.
Physical & Medical Requirements
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
Required Licenses & Certifications - Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Water Conveyance Systems Assistant Superintendent.
