HEAD CUSTODIAN - ELEMENTARY

JOB SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor and the Building Principal, the Elementary Head Custodian assists in managing the cleaning duties in a particular school building in order to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Helps in assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff within a designated building.
  • Plans, oversees and/or performs all cleaning within a designated building, including the mechanical equipment and furnishing contained therein, the grounds, and outdoor equipment surrounding the building, always maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Monitors the time records of the custodial employees assigned to the Head Custodian.
  • Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Plans, oversees and/or prepares facilities for school and community functions.
  • Assists other personnel with heavy lifting and delivery within the building.
  • Assists maintenance and grounds staff with repairs and deliveries within and surrounding a designated building.
  • Promotes the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
  • Conducts inspections of building(s) and grounds with the Facilities Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • One to two years of experience working as a school custodian.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for custodial duties, cleaning and minor repairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate cleaning machinery and equipment.
  • Requires a cooperative attitude.
  • Excellent work ethic.
