Harbor provides medical, behavioral health, dental, and support services to more than 34,000 patients in Boston, the South Shore, and Cape Cod. Harbor Health also operates two Programs for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly in Mattapan and Brockton, providing comprehensive healthcare, transportation and social services for more than 450 frail elders who continue to live with dignity and independence in the community and a Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. To help further the mission of Harbor, we are looking for an talented Per Diem Nutritionist to join our team at the our HarborWIC Program to cover open/vacant shift needs.

    WIC hours of operation include Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am-7:00pm, Wednesday and Fridays 8:00 am-4pm, and Saturdays 9:00 am-1:00pm. We are particularly in need of Bilingual Haitian Creole/English candidates.

    Role:

    The Program Nutritionist provides nutrition services to WIC applicants and participants.

    Responsibilities:
    • Provides nutrition care to high-risk women, infants and children under the supervision of the senior nutritionist, including all aspects of:
      1. Anthropometric and hematological data collection
      2. Dietary assessment, nutritional risk assessment and food package prescription
      3. Nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education
      4. Documentation and data entry
      5. Referrals to other health and social services
      6. Follow-up nutrition education
    • Participates in planning, development and evaluation of:
      1. Educational materials and group nutrition education sessions
      2. Participant counseling and education strategies
      3. Nutrition in-services and outreach activities
      4. Nutrition policies
    • Assists senior nutritionist in:
      1. Training paraprofessional WIC staff
      2. Conducting quality assurance activities
    • Communicates with health care community on issues pertaining to participant needs.
    • Provides nutrition care for low-risk applicants and participants as needed.
    • Assists in the training of WIC Program Assistants.
    • Participates in quality assurance activities.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, or Nutrition Education
    • Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, or Food and Nutrition preferred
    • Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or licensure with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists preferred
    • One year of experience in clinical or community nutrition preferred
    • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities
    • Excellent communications skills
    • Interest in nutrition and maternal child health
    • Bilingual Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese or Haitian Creole strongly preferred.
    • Must have previous WIC experience in the Massachusetts WIC Program
