The Department for Hazardous Substances/ATF/CBRN is responsible for handling suspected or actual hazardous situations involving unknown CBRN substances in Berlin. It is also one of eight locations of the Analytical Task Force Germany (ATF) of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), and is regularly deployed in national and international disaster situations. In addition to providing specialist advice to police forces, the LKA KTI 23 team also conducts on-site analysis of unknown substances using a mobile laboratory.
