Behavioral Health Technicians are mental health employees who provide hands-on care to individuals with varying degrees of mental health challenges and/or developmental disabilities.

BHTs perform a vital, front-line role with clients in a variety of settings as they observe and interact with clients on days, evenings, overnights, and/or weekends.

BHTs help with facilitating educational, recreational and therapeutic activities.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide frontline support and assistance for clients
  • Orient new clients to program rules, policies and procedures as well as peer group and site staff
  • Organize and facilitate client activities, educational groups, and skill building groups on topics such as chemical dependency, selfesteem, anger management, life skills, social skills, and coping techniques.
  • Document client contacts and complete other forms required by program policy and procedure
  • Daily monitoring and observation of client participation in program activities including client behaviors and symptomology. Report to nursing staff regarding any concerns.
  • Model appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with clients and coworkers.
  • Provide emotional support to help clients manage negative symptoms and utilize coping strategies to enhance their quality of life and daily functioning
  • Conduct bed checks, rounds, and document accordingly
  • Monitor client's selfadministration of medications, check and document vital signs
  • Comply with security procedures including clothing searches, rooM/Facility searches to maintain a safe environment per policy and procedure.
  • Intervene proactively with clients in situations where clients may be escalating emotionally and/or behaviorally using approved nonviolent crisis intervention techniques, including the least restrictive interventions appropriate for the situation
  • Attend and participate in shift reports, site meetings, and trainings as mandated by agency policy and procedure
  • Communicate effectively and promote quality service within a compassionate environment by treating clients and coworkers with respect and dignity
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in all client, staff and facility areas
  • Transport clients in company vehicle to meetings, appointments, and/or outings
  • May be required to cover evening/weekend hours
  • Support a work climate that emphasizes collective team performance and demonstrates Polara Health's core competencies
  • Show appreciation for and ability to respond to cultural differences, and adjust communication practices accordingly in order to minimize crosscultural misunderstandings
  • Consistent work attendance and compliance with scheduled work hours (excludes approved FMLA absences)
  • Responsible for complying with Polara Health's Corporate Compliance Program as it applies to individual job duties, the department, and the company
  • Comply with all Polara Health policies and procedures
  • Exercise due diligence to prevent, detect, and report unlawful and/or unethical conduct by fellow coworkers, professional affiliates and/or agents
  • Display a positive work ethic
  • Actively participates in performance management and coaching
  • Demonstrates respect for consumer confidentiality practices
  • Other duties as assigned
  • 21 years of age or older; or minimum 18 years old and licensed or certified under A.R.S. Title 32 and providing services within the personnel member's scope of practice; or minimum 18 years old for select administrative positions
  • Must be able to provide or obtain an AZDPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Must possess a valid Driver License
  • CPI and CPR/First Aid certification required (training provided by Polara Health)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and four years related experience required
  • Strong ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle highly confidential information with professionalism
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication, problem solving, and teambuilding skills
  • Must be detail oriented, have excellent organizational skills and be flexible
  • Must demonstrate clinical competencies essential to effective job performance
  • Must possess the ability to learn and/or operate relevant computer operating system environments, and the ability to operate a variety of office equipment (fax machine, copier, scanner, computer, telephone system, postage meter, etc.)
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fastpaced, time sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
