About Us: Crux Analytics is a mission-driven Fintech company focused on increasing access to quality financial services for small businesses nationwide.

Crux is developing a first-of-its-kind, hyper-local market analytics platform to arm financial institutions with the tools that they need to more effectively engage and serve small business customers. We add value at every stage of the small business engagement cycle, from marketing, pipeline generation, and sales to deposit generation, underwriting, loan origination, relationship management, and portfolio monitoring. We have a unique technology targeting a large, unmet need for financial institutions of all sizes in one of the highest-growth segments in the industry. The company has recently begun trials of its MVP with prospective customers.

As a fast-paced and well-funded company, Crux is looking to substantially increase its team by bringing on core team members. We are looking for phenomenal, talented individuals who excel both technically and within a close team environment.

About the Role: Data and data science are core to everything we do at Crux. The Senior ML Engineer will sit at the center of it all, playing a crucial role in building and scaling our analytics platform. As an early member of the team, you will be instrumental in enabling and accelerating our machine learning efforts, and will have an informed input on the design and implementation of our data pipeline and architecture. You will leverage machine learning, software engineering, data science and data engineering techniques to design and develop new algorithms extracting the insights that drive our customers' decision-making. You will help to grow a team to bring incredible ideas to fruition.

    Responsibilities:

    • Leverage software engineering, machine learning, data science and data engineering techniques, sourcing and using a wide range of data types as you go, to enhance our platform's capabilities and deliver innovative solutions to our customers.
    • Design and develop new algorithms in areas including (but not limited to) classification, clustering, archetyping, text summarization, text generation and recommendation.
    • Take full ownership of technical projects, from conception to deployment, ensuring they meet high standards of quality, performance, and scalability.
    • Help to grow and, where appropriate, mentor a team of data professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams in collaboration with the company's CTO to define project requirements and scope, and effectively communicate project progress and outcomes.
    • Provide informed input on the design and implementation of data pipelines and architecture, leveraging industry-standard cloud platforms for storage, cloud computing, and other related services.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
    • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience
    • Proven track record of full ownership and leadership of technical projects, including definition of project requirements, scope and OKRs
    • Experience working with industry-standard cloud platforms for storage, computing, etc.
    • Experience sourcing and working with a large range of data sources and types, including data scraping where necessary
    • Experience working in the earliest stages of company and product development, and as one of the earliest members of a ML/engineering/DS team
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and non-technical stakeholders

    Bonus items:

    • Experience with data science, deep learning and natural language processing
    • Experience working with GIS data and leveraging geospatial analytics
    • Prior experience in the financial industry or related domains

    Benefits:

    • Competitive, market-benchmarked salary and equity package, with flexibility in package composition
    • Flexible work hours and hybrid work model emphasizing in-person collaboration as a norm, with flexibility where needed
    • Unlimited vacation policy
    • Friendly, engaging, kind and driven co-workers
    • Health, dental and vision insurance options
    • Access to physical, mental and reproductive health support and preferential pricing
    • Opportunity to make a significant impact in an early-stage, fast-growing startup environment

Crux was founded by Jacob and Nathan Bennett. We are two brothers who grew up in London but have called the US home for over a decade. Outside of work, Jacob's life is governed by his 9-month-old son. Nathan occasionally moonlights as a ski instructor. Our family and friends are the most important thing in our lives but cooking and eating good food comes in a close second.

We pride ourselves on being people first. We believe in the conviction of ideas, backed by a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and push back when challenged. Our humility guides us to recognize when we're wrong or at the point of our own limitations, and to seek input when needed, fostering an environment where mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities (and occasionally sources of humor). We're not afraid to dive headfirst into the unknown and navigate uncharted waters together. We celebrate diversity and encourage a range of interests, recognizing that a well-rounded individual brings unique perspectives to the table. Most importantly, we put humanity at the forefront of everything we do, because at the end of the day, it's people that matter most. If you share our passion for growth, collaboration, embracing the unexpected, and fun, we'd love to have you join our team.

How to Apply: Please submit your resume with a note outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in joining our team to
