(ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S.

Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV.

ECI has an immediate opening for a Construction Manager.

This position is an on-site role for individuals with strong knowledge of the means and methods used in the construction of electrical substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy (solar and wind) collection systems.

A Construction Manager (CM) advises project managers and the company on project planning, constructability preparedness, construction sequencing and works with subcontractors to resolve field issues as well as oversees material receiving and laydown yard needs for the projects.

Construction Managers with strong computer and organizational skills can be considered for project management positions when needed. The position of Construction Manager is an essential role in the organization.

The CM is part of the project team with direct input to the actual construction of the project, safety and quality.

This position reports directly to the Project Management Office leader and supports 8-12 project managers and approximately 50 projects at various stages.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Understanding substation, transmission, and distribution systems and ability to explain the function of the components of each system.
  • Understanding the project design documents including all plans, vendor drawings, installation details, and specifications.
  • Conferring with the Project Manager, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, material procurement issues, design flaws, construction schedule, construction delays, and system commissioning.
  • Identifying constructability issues associated with the design documents and coordinates questions and solutions with the engineering team and the contractors.
  • Helping the Project Manager identify specific risks associated with the project particularly as it relates to construction issues, site planning, material receiving, and safety issues.
  • Participating in weekly project progress meetings with the Project Manager, engineering, contractors, and the client (as required by the client).
  • Coordinating scheduling of the actual construction tasks between contractors, particularly when multiple contractors are executing tasks in the same work area.
  • Providing 34 week short term planning of all construction and material receiving activities.
  • Maintaining field marked prints current with all engineering and as constructed changes.
  • Tracking all Lessons Learned and communicating them to the project team and to EPCS/ECI staff where applicable.
  • Supporting the Project Manager in evaluating the subcontractor's percentage of completion and comparing it against the contractor's schedule of values.
  • Supporting the Project Manager in coordinating substation testing and commissioning activities.
  • Interfacing between owner's site supervision, safety personnel, subcontractor staff, project management, testing, and engineering staff.
  • Thoroughly understanding and implementing environmental requirements for the project and performs SWPPP BMP maintenance inspections as required by the project using our iPad based iAuditor environmental forms.
  • Understanding all material handling issues including crane use, rigging practices, critical lift plans, forklift operation, and unloading permit requirements.
  • Implementing concrete placement requirements and specifications including mix designs, 3rd party testing practices, breaking strength, slump, air entrainment, cold joints, and the use of additives.
  • Evaluating contractor installation means and methods for safety and compliance with owner, engineer, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Understanding all safety requirements and best practices to ensure that our employees and our subcontractors are operating in a safe manner at all times.
  • Establishing and maintaining a culture of safety on the project through leadership and a personnel commitment to all aspects of the site safety program.
  • Understanding and assuring compliance with all client safety programs and requirements.
  • Identifying and understanding specific safety risks present at the site and appropriate risk mitigation.
  • Performing site safety observations using our iPad based iAuditor platform and discusses corrective actions and improvement opportunities with site personnel.
  • Leading by example when it comes to using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Completing OSHA 30 training program or the MSHA equivalent.
  • Immediately notifying PM and Regional Safety Manager on all near miss incidents and accidents.
