Job Title: School Counselor at Assigned Campus

Reports to: Principal

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

About the Job: As a School Counselor, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program at the assigned campus. Your role involves counseling students to develop their academic, career, personal, and social abilities, addressing the needs of special population students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in counseling from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas school counselor certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience instructing and managing student behavior
Ability to present information to various group sizes

Experience:

Minimum of two years creditable experience as a classroom teacher

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Guidance Curriculum

Plan and deliver structured group lessons to enhance students' interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
Teach the school guidance curriculum using effective instructional strategies
Collaborate with students, staff, and parents to identify priorities for student support
Incorporate engaging delivery techniques, including technology tools, in curriculum

Responsive Services

Utilize effective techniques to respond to problematic incidents and provide support to students
Implement activities to remove barriers to student development
Offer remediation practices to help students cope with challenges
Provide support in crisis situations and maintain a safe school environment

Individual Planning

Create age-appropriate counseling services and oversee students' academic and personal development
Act as an advocate for students and promote diversity and equitable access to educational programs
Interpret test results, offer career guidance, and assist with goal setting

System Support

Analyze testing data to address student needs
Conduct program audits for accountability and systemic change
Participate in school improvement planning and provide training to staff and parents
Communicate program plans effectively to stakeholders

Other Related Duties

Maintain records and comply with legal and ethical standards
Adhere to safety protocols and emergency procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s)

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Various including sitting, standing, bending, etc.
Motion: Involves walking
Lifting: Light lifting and occasional physical restraint
Environment: Indoor and outdoor work settings
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control and work irregular hours when needed
