    Delano Public Schools Seeks Food Service Director

    Delano Public Schools is seeking a passionate and experienced Food Service Director to lead our dynamic team and ensure the success of our district's nutritious and delicious school meals program

    About the Role:


    As the Food Service Director, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the district's food service program.


    This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Leadership and Vision:
    • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the district's food service program, aligning with district goals and student needs.
    • Foster a positive and professional work environment for all food service staff.
    • Oversee all aspects of food service operations, including meal planning, menu development, purchasing, inventory control, and production.
    • Financial Management:
    • Develop and manage the food service budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with all applicable regulations.
    • Monitor food costs and implement strategies to maximize revenue while maintaining high-quality meals.
    • Prepare and submit required reports to the district administration and state agencies.
    • Menu Development and Nutrition:
    • Development of nutritious and appealing menus that meet USDA guidelines and student preferences.
    • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in school nutrition and incorporate them into the program.
    • Work closely with school staff and families to address dietary restrictions and promote healthy eating habits.
    • Supervision and Staff Development:
    • Provide effective leadership and oversight to food service staff at all levels.
    • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional service.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development for all food service personnel.
    • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate effectively with school administrators, teachers, parents, and community members to build a strong support system for the food service program.
    • Maintain open communication channels with staff and address their concerns promptly.
    • Advocate for the importance of school meals and their impact on student learning and well-being.
    • Work with staff at two private schools that the district provides meals for during the school year

    Education/Certification Requirement:
    Eligible candidates for the director position at a small School Food Authority (SFA) must have one of the following qualifications:


    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in a specific area which include Food and Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Family and Consumer Science, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts and Business.
    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, with any academic major or area of concentration (see list above), and either a School Nutrition Association (SNA) Level 4 Certification or at least one year of relevant food service experience. Relevant food service experience may include managing food service operations at a healthcare facility, restaurant, civic/community organization, or other type of establishment; this may include documented volunteer or unpaid relevant food service experience.
    • Associate degree or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in a specific area (see list above) and one year of relevant food service experience (see list above).
    • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of three years of relevant food service experience (see list above).
    • Minnesota Department of Education Health Food Manager Certification within 45 days of employment, required.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a school food service program - preferred.

    Essential Skills:

    • Supervisory experiences, including delegation, management and overseeing projects and staff.
    • Strong understanding of USDA Child Nutrition Programs and regulations.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety principles and sanitation procedures.
    • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, and accounting practices.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
    • Passion for school nutrition and a commitment to providing high-quality meals for students.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficient in use of Google and/or Microsoft Office programs.

    Compensation and Benefits:
    Delano Public Schools offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salary range with be $90,000 - $100,000 based on experience. This full-time position will be placed on an individual contract and is set to begin July 2024.
