Overall Position Summary and Objectives

  • The purpose of this position is to provide strategic support to the Content Team Lead in NHLBI's Office of Science Policy, Engagement, Education, and Communications, Health Education, Digital Information and Dissemination Branch by developing and implementing strategies to communicate heart, lung, blood, and sleep messages to NHLBI stakeholders; translating complex scientific and medical information into plain language; developing and implementing content strategy for NHLBI's digital assets

Work Details:


  • Develop and implement strategies to communicate heart, lung, blood, and sleep messages to NHLBI stakeholders, including researchers, health professionals, advocates, and the public

  • Translate complex scientific and medical information into plain language, and tailor this information for a variety of audiences and channels

  • Assist Team Lead in content strategy development and implementation, including developing and disseminating SOPs and tip sheets

  • Work closely with branch and office colleagues to coordinate efforts on content development and messaging on common topics

  • Develops communication strategies and plans that align with overall program objectives and goals.
  • Attend routine staff meetings to gather information necessary to develop effective communication projects, plans, and strategies.
  • Under the direction of the Team Lead, collaborate with external contractors to facilitate writing and editing projects.
  • Assist the Team Lead in socializing style guides throughout the Office and promoting SEO best practices.
  • Prepares written and electronic information documents for various audiences.
  • Work with colleagues across the office to appropriately disseminate information and promote NHLBIproduced products through a variety of communication channels.
  • Coordinate and monitor the production of and/or write and disseminate specific communications materials.
  • Conducts media and content analysis.

  • Builds relationships with the press and maintains specialized contacts.
  • Meet with internal and external stakeholders to identify communications gaps and collaboration opportunities.
  • Collaborate with NHLBI divisions, offices, and centers to ensure that digital content is accurate and uptodate.
  • Work closely with the branch digital team to coordinate digital needs to support new content development or content edits.
  • Attends workshops, seminars, and meetings to stay abreast of current scientific and policy trends.
  • Actively participate in branch and office meetings and projects, providing relevant recommendations based on experience and expertise.
