Job Summary:


  • Performs journey level maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility.

Depending on assignment, typical duties may include:

providing customer service; performing routine tests, maintenance, and repair of grounds, vehicles, equipment, infrastructure, plant, public areas, and/or related items; operating motorized vehicles, equipment, and/or plants; inputting data into computerized systems; preparing logs and records; and/or, performing other related activities.


Essential Duties:


  • Performs facility, playground, and park maintenance repairs and improvements and including carpentry, irrigation, landscaping, masonry, etc.) throughout the West University Place Parks System and managed areas; work may involve identifying and troubleshooting applicable systems and equipment; and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Operates, inspects, and maintains equipment, machines, and vehicles to include hand and power tools, backhoe, front-end loader, vehicles, and/or sludge press machines; inspects and maintains equipment and machines for operational functionality.
  • Provides customer service by providing assistance and information to the public, vendors, and other internal/external departments or agencies, to facilitate events or operations related to assigned area of function.
  • Collects and transports solid waste and recyclables from West U Parks.
  • Prepares, maintains, updates, and/or forwards records, reports, logs, bills, check lists, service orders, and other documentation; and maintains and/or updates databases and online systems, to ensure timely and accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education and Experience:


  • High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Irrigation Technician Certification
  • Playground Safety Certificate

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Knowledge

  • Applicable tools and equipment related to assigned area of operation;
  • Applicable principles, policies, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility;
  • Maintenance principles related to traffic signs and signals;
  • Occupational hazards and safe work methods;
  • Basic mathematics;
  • General maintenance principles, methods, and techniques;
  • Applicable Federal, State, and City laws and regulations.

Skills

  • Performing skilled labor and maintenance in assigned area of responsibility;
  • Operating applicable tools, equipment, and machinery;
  • Preparing and maintaining basic records;
  • Reading and comprehending manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints;
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.

Physical Requirements:


Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


Heavy Work:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.


Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; intense noise; and other environmental conditions, such as, challenging behaviors, imminent danger, and threatening environments; incumbents may also be expected to travel.
