ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes incident reports as required.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions and takes corrective action as needed.
- Performs pool chemical testing, as required, and communicates any issue to supervisor immediately.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.
- Attends monthly inservice trainings and YMCA mandatory staff meetings and training.
- Works collectively with the director to ensure the needs of the department are met.
- Adheres to all YMCA of Montclair policies, procedures, rules, regulations and best practices, including emergency and safety procedures, and supports the associations' philanthropy efforts.
- Cooperate and interact with all members, staff, program participants, and volunteers in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.
- Demonstrate and model the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
- Perform other jobrelated duties as may be assigned periodically by the supervisor.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing highrisk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- American Red Cross or YMCA currently certified Lifeguard
Lifeguard Certification Required:
- Minimum age of 1
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding
- Oxygen Administration certification
- Ability to maintain certificationlevel of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Complete Bloodborne pathogens course annually
- Maintain all required certifications (active)
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
- Must be able to remain alert.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
- Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, wet and inclement weather conditions)
- Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds
