    Assistant Electrical Engineer


    We are seeking a highly motivated and capable engineer to join our team as an assistant to our company's lead PE.

    We are a unique and specialized operation within the power industry, so it's rare to find candidates well versed in all, or even some of the equipment and services that we provide.

    That said, we are focusing on finding applicants with certain engineering, organizational, and interpersonal skillsets.

    Once we have found the right engineer, we will help them to grow into the role that we are looking to fill.

    The right candidate for the position should demonstrate an excellent ability to learn, organize, and retain new information.

    The position will require a dedicated results-oriented person that can focus, adapt, and work well with teammates on a daily basis.

    We do receive rush and emergency requests, so it is not uncommon for project schedules and team resources to be adapted in support of customers with urgent or emergency project needs.

    A good candidate should be comfortable, confident, and ready to support their teammates in any of these situations.


    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Engineering support for shop and field service personnel as requested and prepare design solutions as needed.
    • Collaborate with Lead PE for shop project questions to streamline communications, keep shop projects moving forward, and build your knowledgebase.
    • Develop one-line, three-line, and schematic drawings.
    • Prepare electrical equipment specifications.
    • Sizing/selecting components including breakers, fuses, cables, and wiring.
    • Collaborate with technical departments to create standard processes and checklists for common shop and field tasks and practices.
    • Sales team support for customer questions and meetings when needed.

    Required Education:


    • Electrical Engineering Degree / BS or MS

    Essential Skill Sets and Qualities
    Candidates Should Posses

    • Fully understand, develop & produce one-line, three-line, and schematic drawings.
    • Comfortable taking direction and accepting corrections or changes from our lead PE.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills – Comfortable interacting with teammates, customers, and subcontractors.
    • Excellent proactive and results oriented work habits.
    • Proficient at building and improving our company's existing processes, information organization, and engineering library.
    • Willingness to learn, research and occasionally attend applicable classes, seminars, etc.
    • Familiarity with electrical power industrial standards, codes, ANSI, CSA, NFPA and NEC.

    Non-essential Skill Sets and Experience

    • Experience with design of power distribution systems and cable / breaker / fuse / transformer sizing.
    • Experience with creating effective process documents and checklists.
    • Experience with reading and understanding electrical and oil test reports.
    • Experience with low and/or medium voltage switchgear design.
    • Experience with performing Med or HV transformer testing.
    • Experience with performing LV, Med, or HV circuit breaker testing.
    • Experience with performing relay testing or programming.
    • Experience with low and or medium voltage switchgear troubleshooting, assembly, modification, repair, or testing.
    • Use of basic electrical test equipment.
    • MS Office Suite software.
