    The School of Architecture and Planning's (SA+P) Department of Graduate Built Environment Studies and Interdisciplinary Center for Urban Crime (ICUC) in the School of Social Work at Morgan State University invites applications for a tenured/tenurable faculty position for Fall 2024. This is a 9.5-month appointment at the Assistant or Associate professor level with opportunities to conduct paid research at ICUC during the summer. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated record of transdisciplinary research, teaching, and service. They will have research interests related to one or more of the following disciplines and subject areas: city planning, urban data analysis, environmental design, neighborhood safety and policing, crime prevention policies and practices, criminal justice and judicial reform, and those that explore the relationship between design of the built environment, public safety and social work. The ideal candidate will additionally have a second area of expertise related to urban planning or a related field.

    The position's academic home will be in the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), Department of Graduate Built Environment Studies. The selected candidate will primarily teach in the Master's Program in City and Regional Planning and the doctoral program in Architecture, Urbanism, and Built Environments.

    All candidates should have an outstanding record of academic achievement and be prepared for the responsibilities of a tenured/tenurable faculty member in a Carnegie-designated research (R2) institution with aspirations to become a very high research doctoral granting (R1) institution.     Job Duties:
    ● Teach, supervise and mentor masters and doctoral students, guide masters projects and doctoral dissertations; develop new transdisciplinary courses related to the built environment
    ● Seek and obtain research grants related to ICUC's mission; carryout impactful grant-funded research and advocacy
    ● Serve as an advocate for and promote the ICUC and its initiatives within the region, nation and world. Represent the center in university-level initiatives and administrative functions
    ● Build and sustain synergies between the School of Architecture and Planning and the School of Social Work around curriculum, research, public service, and advocacy
    ● Develop and maintain a well-focused research agenda that results in peer-reviewed scholarship and externally-funded grants
    ● Develop a secondary area of expertise related to city planning and the built environment
    ● Teach between 6-9 credits a year, in consultation with the Chair of the Department of Graduate Built Environment Studies and associated program directors, and the Center Director for ICUC.
    ● Contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the City and Regional Planning program, the Department and SA+P; and participate in shared faculty governance through regular attendance at faculty meetings, school/university committees and administrative functions
    ● Maintain an active public service program and liaise with city and state governments and local advocacy organizations, such as Maryland APA, AIA Baltimore, and the region's urban-focused NGOs
    ● Support Morgan State's designation as Maryland's Preeminent Public Urban Research University and advance the goals of its strategic plan, Transformation Morgan

    Requested Minimum Qualifications
    The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning or a related field from an accredited university. Candidates should have an outstanding record of peer-reviewed publications, grants, conference presentations, have a notable reputation among peers.

    ● Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, constituencies and external
    partners and collaborators
    ● Experience in course design and curriculum development
    ● Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues in a collaborative environment and with diverse student populations
    ● Extensive experience in researching, studying and working in U.S. cities
    ● Familiarity and comfort working in the context of city neighborhoods, planning and public safety agencies, and nonprofit organizations
    ● Ability to broadly contribute to the Department of Graduate Built Environment Studies instructional needs, including those related to environmental planning, climate change and resiliency, urban health and wellbeing, urban design, urban development practices and real estate, historic preservation, global economic practices, community development, public policy, graphics, and/or planning support systems
