SUMMARY OF POSITION:
To oversee the high school ministry at Illuminate Community Church (9th-12th grades). The objective of the HS pastor is to lead, teach, shepherd, and build volunteer staff and students. The HS pastor is responsible for the overall health, vision, and direction. The targeted goal is to nurture the hearts of students and maintain continued ministry growth.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive approach to the high school ministry.
This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of high school ministry to:


  • Create discipleship environments for students to grow personally with Christ
  • Equip students to share the Gospel
  • Lead, manage, and shepherd interns
  • Recruit and train a team of passionate and caring volunteers to mentor and disciple youth
  • Manage and care for volunteer teams
  • Teach in large group settings (Bible/Christcentered messages)
  • Identify places for students to serve
  • Support and assist the parents in the process of discipling their youth
  • Provide exceptional communication between the high school ministry and parents
  • Plan and organize events, camps, trips, and missions opportunities
  • Numerically grow the high school ministry by creating attractive and compelling environments to which our youth can invite their nonChristian friends
  • Establish relationships with schools to have an oncampus presence
  • Stay uptodate with new resources and changes in high school ministry and youth culture and adjust programming as needed to maintain a current and effective program
  • Participate in continuing education events and training opportunities
  • Provide parents with continuing education and training in raising their youth
  • Collaborate and establish teaching curriculum
  • Track attendance and follow up with students
  • Effectively and responsibly manage the high school ministry budget
  • Work alongside other staff members and maintain a strong teamwork mentality
  • Attend all weekly/monthly staff meetings as well as any other scheduled meetings
  • Ensure that the Student Protection Policy is observed in all high school ministry settings
  • Keep in congruence with the overall main vision
  • Collaborate with Junior High pastor and Children's Director
  • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
The High School Pastor displays the following character traits:


Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of the Bible and theology
  • Comfortable with learning new database systems and virtual platforms
  • Fulfills the qualifications of a biblical elder (1 Timothy 3:17; Titus 1:69)

Demonstrated competency in:

  • Leading groups of volunteers in significant ministry activities.
  • Leadership in periods of organizational transition; ability to move culture in a new direction.
  • Multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Relational skills, including a high value of people, aspiring to serve others, fostering a healthy and amiable spiritual environment, being approachable and accessible, working collaboratively with others and in team environments, and appreciation for own and other's giftedness.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to:

  • Communicate and teach in small venues persons)
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and accuracy.
  • Be flexible.
  • Work in a multifaceted environment with little supervision.
  • Forecast as well as attend to weekly details.
  • Handle confidential information.

Education and/or experience:

  • Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Divinity, or equivalent preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in ministry leadership.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
