Leidos is seeking a charismatic individual with the desire to shape the future of transportation.

We're looking for a
Systems Engineering Manager with experience in new transportation technologies, such as V2X, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), and transportation communications, along with a desire to accelerate industry adoption.

This individual will have the opportunity to pioneer co-development of these technologies with industry by leading outreach, support, and technology transfer.

Leidos operates FHWA's_ Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory_ (STOL), where emerging technologies are developed to improve transportation safety, mobility, and environmental impacts throughout the nation and internationally.

Saxton Lab provides a variety of services to support the advancement and deployment of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technologies, Cooperative Driving Automation (CDA), modeling and simulation, open-source software, data management, and cloud-based systems.


The
Systems Engineering Manager will be a key part of the Leidos team supporting Connected Automated Vehicle (CAV) research across the US through our work at the U.S.

Department of Transportation's (USDOT) _Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory_ (STOL), located at the Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA.

Our team helps to develop emerging technologies to improve transportation safety, mobility, and environmental impacts. The STOL provides a variety of services to support the advancement and deployment of vehicle-to-infrastructure technologies.


The
Systems Engineering Manager will oversee the work of 8-12 people across multiple, collaborative teams including team leads and managers to develop ConOps, requirements, use cases, and other system level specifications, and organize system level testing to verify compliance to these specifications.

The
Systems Engineering Manager will need to possess a keen interest relating to the following:

  • Vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle emerging technologies.
  • Automated vehicles.
  • Traffic operations.
  • Intelligent transportation systems.

Systems Engineering Manager responsibilities:


  • Oversee outreach, technology transfer, and technical support.
  • Assess industry, organizations, and projects to develop prioritized strategy that accelerates industry adoption.
  • Ability to build trust and persuade industry partners to participate and contribute to technology development.
  • Leverage partners to solve technology obstacles identified by our software team.
  • Partner management, maintaining support and ensuring their projects are developed according to protocols and quality necessary for incorporation.

Systems Engineering Leadership

  • Manage Systems Engineering resources, responsible for concepts of operations and system requirements.
  • Manage DevOps team that leads system builds, version control, and configuration management resources.
  • Own and provide expertise on the systems engineering process.
  • Scrum process and technical process improvements management.
  • Manages team that owns detailed designs, integration and testing, and system verification and validation.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control Leadership

  • Test and Data Leadership, manage test engineering team and testing program including strategies to improve R&D testing process.
  • Manage data scientist and engineering team and program strategy/roadmap for data storage and accessibility.
  • Lead the collection and visualization of program data to assist program management with decision making, policy formulation, or other managerial functions.
  • Oversee the design and build of data solutions for program and project managers, including resource and financial planning input and dashboards.
  • Maintain SharePoint organization for internal and external program and project use.

Qualifications:


  • Requires BS degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with project management professional methodology, including analysis of estimates to complete, resource planning, and methodologies such as Earned Value Management
  • Lite.
  • Project management experience including integrated master schedule management.
  • Experience working on Agile projects and working with Agile toolsets, such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering methodologies and data and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge or experience with version control architecture and configuration management
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, engineering, or other science discipline with 8+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Detailoriented, highly organized, and strong ability to multitask.
  • Experience managing resources and people.
  • Experience in staff planning, including adjusting to shifting R&D priorities and solving complex problems quic
